“Welcome to Hidden Lane Ranch, Rachel.”
Rachel flees Buffalo, New York with no destination in sight. She is running from her ex-boyfriend who has gone from a kind and loving person to an abusive drug dealer. She decides to stop in Sheridan, Wyoming and meets sexy cowboy and ranch owner, Clint, her first night in town.
Clint sees newbie Rachel from across the local diner and can't help but be attracted to the blonde beauty. He not only notices her looks and the fact that she is checking him out too but that she is also sporting a bruised cheek. Clint is surprised at his initial desire to help this beautiful stranger and tells her that if she is planning to stay in town that he could use some help around his ranch, Hidden Lane Ranch.
Upon arriving at the ranch, Rachel meets Clint's family- playboy younger brother, Wyatt, sweet and bubbly younger sister, Eliza, and his widow and kind mother, Mary. Rachel is not only instantly loving the family but she enjoys the land that the ranch is on and the difference in the environment that she's used to. She takes the job, which means residing with the family in a room next to Clint.
Easy access baby!
Eliza decides to take Rachel out on the town to show her all the ins and outs of small town living- which of course means they end up at local bar, Saloon. Clint decides to head out as well because the idea of some other man eyeing Rachel doesn't sit too well with him.
After several slow dances that leave them with racing hearts and libidos, Clint decides that he's going after what he wants- Rachel.
“Rachel, I’ve been dying to kiss you all night. You’re lucky we were on a crowded dance floor back there or I would’ve ravaged you. You feel so good in my arms, like you belong there.”
Well now it's GAME ON!
Clint and Rachel leave early for some time alone and some time between the sheets. Clint got all alpha male and that is one thing this reader LOVES!
“You won’t just be mine tonight either. You’re off limits to Wyatt and his friends. I don’t like to share. Understand?”
She swallowed and nodded. “Good,” I said, leaning down to kiss her, showing her with my lips and tongue what I was going to do to the rest of her body. “Mine,” I said fiercely when the kiss ended.
Knowing after a very short time that what Rachel and he have is more than a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am relationship, he lets her know up front that what they have started is so much more.
“I know we just met a bit ago and we don’t really know each other, but I wanted you to know that I have feelings for you. I love having sex with you and you’re amazing, but this is about more than just sex for me.”
Regardless of how they feel about each other, Rachel doesn't do well with being told what to do even if Clint is only trying to keep her safe. Rachel has had one too many bossy and abusive men in her life and refuses to ever be told what to do regardless of Clint's intentions.
When Rachel leaves the safe haven of the ranch alone against Clint's wishes will she live to regret the decision when she comes face to face with her past or will Clint's fears for her safety prove to be unwarranted?
“I’ve loved you since the moment I saw you in the diner late that night. I had a feeling you were the one and over time I’ve become more than certain..."
