I approached Ellison and we stood nose to nose and chest to chest because I’d walked up so close. She craned her neck to look up at me and I raised my hands to smooth down her arms. But I couldn’t touch her. I held my hands at her shoulders and I looked down at her longingly, but I just couldn’t push past the thin, invisible force that seemed to surround her. I didn’t want to be like Finn. I didn’t want to push myself on her when she was already upset about something else. It wasn’t fair to her. The energy from her body brushed across my palms and I felt twisted up inside because I couldn’t actually touch her.

She blinked slowly and the blue was shining in contrast with her red-rimmed eyes. I could smell the beer on her and she swayed slightly. “Please don’t, Hunter. Please don’t make this harder.” Her voice was a breathy whisper and I closed my eyes in reaction to it. I wanted to do more than touch her. I wanted to sweep her up in my arms and cradle her to me. I wanted to hold her until all the pain and worry left her body. I wanted to tell her I’d take care of her, I’d cherish her, I’d…that, in reality, I’d end up leaving her.

I’d never felt pain before like I did at that moment. It tore at me. Physical pain shot through my body and my chest tightened. But I pulled my hands back to myself. I protected her heart by not touching her.

For once, I was trying not to be the selfish bastard I knew I was.

Beautiful Broken Rules by Kimberly Lauren

What happens when you create rules to keep others out?

One thing Emerson Moore has come to terms with is that she is the school slut. She knows her way around a frat house and how to get what she wants. She doesn’t make any excuses for her actions and she doesn’t pretend to be anything different. She is who she is and with that she knows how to have a good time. She’s made rules to keep relationships at bay and avoid the demons of her past.

When her best friend, Cole has his two friends from back home move in with him she begins to think she has met her match with Jaxon Riley. Jax is the perfect mixture of tattooed muscle and a sweet-talking mouth. With “hand” written notes, a voice that exudes sex and knowing just how to get under her skin, Jaxon learns how to break all the rules. But will he just end up breaking her heart anyway?

New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 18 and up.

This story is a play on the whole “player” storyline that we are used to. This time, though, it isn’t the guy that is sleeping around; it’s the girl, Emerson (aka Em or Emmy.) What is refreshing about her is that she KNOWS she has issues. She is who she is and she doesn’t apologize for it.  She has 3 rules she always follows and she makes sure the guys know her rules as well. By abiding by her rules, she dodges love and relationships.

Jaxon meets Emerson in a very unconventional way. Since that 1st meeting, he is determined to get to know her better. I think he is adorable. I loved how he was always making little notes on her hand. He takes his time with her and the two become best friends. As they take the plunge into becoming a couple, I feel like being best friends makes their relationship deeper and richer.

Though Jaxon has some issues of his own, I thought the two were perfect for each other. He is so patient and understanding with Emerson. In turn, she lets him in and lets him show her what she has been missing out of life. As much as I think they are perfect for each other, there were times I wanted to smack some sense into one or both of them.

The secondary characters had major roles in the story, almost to the point that they are also main characters. I love how protective Cole is of Quinn (Em’s sister) and Em herself. He is their best friend and loves them fiercely and they in return. Quinn is really special. We usually get a quirky best friend, but to see sisters who are best friends is great. They are so supporting and loving towards each other. Even Jace, Jax’s brother is a big sweet heart and stole my heart as much as Jaxon. The author did a spectacular job at breathing life into each and every one of her characters, even those not in the main group.

I thought this would be a quick, light read, and for the most part it was. I read this book in about a day; I honestly couldn't put it down. However, there we times that my heart hurt for Emerson. She has a hurtful past, and as a result she’s built walls around her heart to protect herself. She lets her past dictate her present and also has let it plan her future. She has to learn how to let go and not to let it define her. It was a bit tough going through it with her at times because I actually became attached to her. This is a book that is high on my list of books to recommend.

I'm a wanderer, an adventurer, a traveler.

I want to see it all. I haven't been everywhere but it's on my list.

"She travels the world & home is always in her heart."

Lately if I'm not traveling or chasing a toddler, I'm writing. Which is weird because I hated writing in college. Oh wait, that's because that was boring. Who really wants to sit there and cite all your sources into APA format? Not this girl. Writing for yourself is enjoyable and cathartic. Please try it. Then tell me about because I love indie authors.

When I was 19, I packed up and followed my high school sweetheart from Texas to California. We had a blast living it up in San Diego. Four years later we made a crazy decision and packed up again and moved to Germany. What? Yep, you read that right. Guess what? Best decision ever! We OWNED Europe. For three years we saw as much as we possibly could. We lived an hour outside of France, a couple from Switzerland and Italy. Most amazing time of my life. Please go out there and see the world, you won't regret it. After Europe we moved back to California, and for now we're just debating our next adventure.

I earned a degree in Child Development. And now I write novels. Makes perfect sense! I write because I walk around all day with these stories in my head. It's nice to be able to get them out of my head in an organized fashion. I hope that someone out there enjoys them, because I have enjoyed so many others'.

Destructive Silence by L.U. Ann Blog Tour

Destructive Silence Blog Tour Banner

If you never speak of the past, can it be erased? Lacey Edwards has a past. A past which changed her life forever. A past she is desperate to forget. Lacey is quiet and reserved compared to her best friend Becca Fox. They became instant friends when Lacey moved to Maryland nine years ago. Becca helped pull Lacey out of her internal shell to experience life. By high school, Lacey was active in the club scene and would occasionally have to drag Becca with her. One night, Lacey realized she might be able to run from her past with the help of Becca and one steamy Caine Rogers. Lacey didn't know, until it was too late, how feelings, honesty, heartbreak and life altering events can change a person. Lacey has Becca’s support but will that be enough. Will Lacey sacrifice her own happiness to do what is expected? ***WARNING*** Appropriate for readers 18 & up only! This novel contains explicit language, sexual situations and abuse that some might find offensive.

“What is life? Is it a journey or just something that you have to get through? It seems like a voyage to everyone around me. A blissful life filled with happy memories occurring on and indefinite timeline. To me life is more like a struggle to get through each day."

Lacey is trying to forget her past. She moved to Maryland from Florida with her family and meets her best friend Becca. Lacey’s story starts when she is a senior in high school. She keeps herself busy with school, working for her parent’s boutique, and dancing. Lacey needs the distraction of getting lost in the music to escape from her silence, from her past. It’s at the club that she meets him…..Caine. Mr. Dreamy is every girl’s fantasy come true. On the surface Caine is perfect, everyone loves him, especially Lacey. Their romance starts of as a whirlwind and they fall deeply in love, until things change, and boy do they change.

There were many times in this story where I wanted to jump in and shake Lacey to open her eyes. I could feel her conflict with the situations she was in. Was she right? Absolutely not, but this is her journey, who are we to tell her what to do. I can only imagine the thought process Lacey went though is exactly what someone else in the same situation would feel. I think L.U. Ann perfectly conveyed those feelings in Lacey. Becca, I adore her and I wish I had a friend like her. Her vocabulary cracked me up and making me pull up urban dictionary on my phone several times. I think I may be adding some of her words into my daily vocabulary. Caine, I really have no words for him, I really don’t. I think the game Lacey and Becca played called Name the Douche bag sums up how I feel about him and then some.

Destructive Silence takes you on a ride. The cover is absolutely beautiful and perfect for this story. Lacey’s story was hard to read, not because it was a bad book, but because of the situations in it. This book does deals with the sensitive subject of abuse. I did want to throw my kindle a couple times and had to step away from the story, but always came back. I’m glad I read Lacey’s story and can’t wait to read the next one. After reading Destructive Silence you will be begging the L.U. Ann to release the next one.

Melissa Benoist takes the role of Lacey Edwards

Lea Michele takes the role of Becca Fox

Darren Criss takes the role of Caine Rogers

Chord Overstreet takes the (unknown) role of Lucas

Author L.U. Ann moved to Colorado from the Eastern Shore of Maryland with her husband and two children. Life in Colorado is so much different. In Maryland, you would find her in the garden tending to her vegetables and flowers, sea glass and shark tooth hunting once a week, and enjoying the kids swimming in the backyard. Her life took a drastic change when her family moved to their own “Little House on the Prairie" at an elevation of over 6,000 feet above sea level, and a semi-arid climate that makes it hard to grow anything. While barely anything can grow where she resides now, the wildlife makes up for it. Mountain Lions, and coyotes, and rattlesnakes, oh my! She tries to spend a little time each day writing, but domestic chores around the house usually take precedence. She would much rather hide them from her husband. She tends to her loving four-legged children who at times become much too demanding when she locks herself in the office. This often results in MORE domestic work, and she finds herself cleaning up after their deviant behavior. At night, you’ll find her begging the kids to go to bed so that she can catch up on the latest book before her sister can. Yes, she is an avid reader who escapes her chaotic but wonderful home to the feisty depths of romance land in search of her newest book boyfriend. Shh, don’t tell her husband. She is an artist by the grace of God. She worked as a set designer for six years, helping establish a local children's theatre where she was the scenery artist, set, and prop designer. Before that, you would find her covered in paint, so engrossed in painting a mural that time didn't exist. Graphic design is her guilty pleasure. Destructive Choices is the second book in The Destructive Series. Each book will hit its reader with lots of angst hoping for a happily ever after.

Blog Tour: Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn

Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that both bind them together and tear them apart.

Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she's built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.

Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.

“Strip.” The command comes out harsher than I mean for it to, but my brave girl grins up at me. Her slender arms cross in front of her body as she lifts the hem of her shirt up and over her head. Her black lacy bra suggests to me that she wants this, planned for it even before coming to my game.

For a second, I’m back in the stadium, looking up at her as the field lights shine all around my glowing angel. And she gives me that look, the secret one that says I’m the only one who knows what she feels like from the inside, in my mouth, and tight around my dick.

I want to always be the only one.

“Slower,” I command, hoping the damn milkshake doesn’t melt too much.

Layla unbuttons her jeans and raises a brow at me. I nod, because yes, now she’s going slowly enough. Once her jeans are down, she kicks them to the side, and I take in her matching lace panties. Every cell in my body screams at me to hit my knees, pull that tiny scrap of fabric aside, and plunge my tongue into her wetness.

“All of it, baby. I want to see all of you.”

Layla’s cheeks darken, and I keep my eyes on hers as she reaches back to unhook her bra. It falls to the floor, and my eyes fall to her perfectly supple breasts and the tight pink nipples protruding in my direction. Again, my tongue presses behind my teeth, aching to taste her.

“Panties,” I practically growl at her.

My chest heaves hard because I’m running out of willpower here. Her skin begs to be touched, licked, bitten. I have the strangest urge to mark her. Claim her. Eying me with her wary gaze, as if she can read my crazed thoughts, Layla bends at the waist and slides her panties down her thighs, past her knees, and lets them drop to her ankles.

“Lie down. On your back.” She blinks rapidly but does as I say.

My cock punches against the zipper of my jeans, and I’m done waiting. Setting the milkshake down on the night table, I undress quickly, leaving my boxer briefs on so I don’t rush things. Climbing on top of Layla, I take a moment to stare down at her perfect body. Perfect face.

I’m dirtying up my angel and I know it, but dammit, how can I not?

Unlike Lyndsie, I was lucky enough to read Let You Leave, Keep Me Still, and Hold Us Close in one shot. All I can say is that alone, they would be really good, but all together it is a beautiful, emotional story. I wasn’t sure as to how I wanted to write this review, should I break it down by each story or write it as a whole. Each part of this story brings something special, so I think I’ll highlight each one on its own. Each part is a 5 star read for me.

Let You Leave

This is the story of how Landen and Layla met. Because of a tragic event, Layla has been homeschooled since she was 13. For her senior year, she decided to go to school to prepare her, mentally and emotionally, for college. She is making it through by being invisible; no one acknowledges her. Landen is new to school. He moves around a lot because of his father’s job, so he used to it. He is also used to not getting close to anyone. Landen sees Layla and he is intrigued. He needs to know her. He brings her out of her shell by seeing her.

I fell in love with Landen right away. He is sweet, attentive, protective, caring, and loyal, the list could go on and on. On top of everything, he is a bit damaged; my favorite kind of guy. Layla is just learning who she is. Landen teaches her how to start living again.

I felt every single word, every single emotion of this novella. From loneliness, joy, fear, anger, and heartbreak this short book is filled with it all. This is probably the most powerful novella I have ever read.

Keep Me Still

This is the main novel of the series and it picks up where Let You Leave left off. Landen and Layla are now in college. This is also packed with a lot of emotion. Keep in mind that this series is a story about 2 broken people trying to find their way.

They are both plagued with self-doubt. Layla wants to protect Landen from herself, she has a condition that she feels will destroy Landen. In turn, he wants to protect her from…the world. Let me take a moment to sigh…*SIGH* Even though he is damaged, he is all kinds of perfect. Any who, she tries and tries to push him away, but he WILL NOT be pushed aside. He loves her and he works his ass off to show her how they belong together.

The love the two have for each other is so tangible. Everyone can see how they feel just by how they look at each other and react to the other. And O.M.G. does it get hot when they finally give in to all the sexual tension surrounding them.

It is SO hard to write this review without revealing much of the story. I want to shout their beautiful story for all to hear. But, you NEED to read it for yourself to get the full impact.

Hold Us Close

Just when I thought FINALLY they are in a great place, the story gets even more gut wrenching. I think the 1st two stories, while they were about Layla and Landen building a relationship and loving each other, it was more about Layla’s personal growth. She needed to find who she is and how to live, not in the past, but in the present. This to me is Landen’s book. It’s his turn to focus on himself, so that he can live for Layla.

Oh Landen. How my heart breaks for him. We know that he is broken, but in this novella, we find out just how broken he really is. He went through so much as a child and it is finally and totally catching up with him. He has major anger and rage issues. I hurt for him and for the little boy that he was. He is such a good man; he just needs help.

Layla’s growth through the series really shows in this book. It’s time for her to be strong, not only for herself, but she needs to carry Landen this time. It’s her turn to not give up on him and for her to push when he tries to cast her aside. She shows Landen that she will always be here for him and always show him the way when he is lost.

Final Thoughts

I absolutely love these two together. They are perfect for each other. Their relationship is far from perfect, but they are willing to keep polishing and polishing until it shines. Just when they think it is sparkling, they find a smudge (sometimes huge) and it’s back to polishing.

This isn’t an easy romance. This is a story of two very broken people. They seem so far beyond repair, but together, piece by piece, they build each other up and become whole. I loved every moment of this book, even when my heart was breaking. If I had to use one word to describe Landen and Layla’s story it would be…BEAUTIFUL.

I have to say I loved this book from the moment I picked it up. Keep Me Still has everything in it: friendship, love, loss, healing, family and sexiness. I could not put it down. I stayed up until about 2am finishing it. I will tell you I did read Let You Leave and Keep Me Still when they were first published in the special edition so I had a wonderful time re-falling in love with Landen and was antsy until I got to Hold Us Close at the end.

The story is written in dual point of views which I absolutely LOVED. I enjoy knowing what both characters are feeling while I go along. My review will be short only for the reason that I do not want to give ANYTHING away. You need to feel every emotion as you read.

We are first introduced to Layla Faherty who has recently gone back to high school after a traumatic event happened to her when she was thirteen. She is now a senior and is determined to make it through the school year. She knows if she can’t get through this last year in high school there is no way she can handle college by herself. As soon as she’s back in school everyone steers clear of her. She knows what they all think of her and is fine keeping to herself.

Landen O’Brien is in his senior year of high school as well and is being moved to another state AGAIN. His family is constantly moving due to his father’s job. They currently live in Colorado where he has two really good friends that he doesn’t want to leave. Bye Colorado and hello to Hope Springs, Georgia. He starts his new school and the first thing he notices is Layla. Oh Landen, Landen, Landen, I have a big crush on you! The second time around I think I fell harder for him. He’s smart, funny, protective, sexy, loyal and just the right amount of F’d up.

The story takes you through Landen and Layla becoming friends and moving into something more. We follow them through high school into adulthood. Both of them hiding their secrets from each other and you know what happens when secrets are held….they eventually come out and no one will be happy. This book is an emotional roller coaster from page one. I LOVED EVERY FREAKING SECOND OF IT! Reading it the second time around was simply amazing. I felt the same emotions as when I did the first time. Your heart will break; it will heal, be filled with love, break again and be squeezed tight. Once you make it to the end you will sit there saying WOW.

I did fall in love with two secondary characters. Corin aka Ginger, and Skylar. Corin is Layla’s best friend. She is a feisty girl and I absolutely loved her fierceness. Skylar is Landen’s friend/team mate from college. He is a hoot and I loved his banter with Landen. I’m hoping and praying we will get their story at some point. I want it *pouts*. No scratch that… I NEED it *stomps foot*.

Keep Me Still is seriously a beautifully touching story. Pick it up today, you will not be disappointed!
