Blog Tour Review: Frenched by Melanie Harlow

Released March 18, 2014
A  Sexy Adult Contemporary Romance

Mia Devine plans over-the-top weddings for a living. So when it comes to her own nuptials, she spares no expense—hand engraved invitations, Vera Wang gown, luxury honeymoon in France. And since her fiancĂ© is Tucker Branch, playboy heir and notorious flirt, local media is obsessed with every little detail.
Which is why it really sucks when he jilts her a week before the wedding.
Mortified, Mia wants nothing more than to crawl under her newly monogrammed sheets and plan a funeral for her dignity, right after blabbing to the world how fitting it is that Tucker will inherit a bolt and screw company, because that’s all he wants to do—screw, and bolt. And he doesn’t do either with much finesse.
When her friends convince her that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, she grits her teeth and packs her bags, determined to make the best of a week in Paris alone.
She never planned on meeting Lucas Fournier.
The free-spirited musician’s scruffy good looks and less-than-sympathetic ear annoy her at first, but when she takes him up on his offer to show her around the city, she discovers that the romance of Paris isn’t just a myth.
Nor is the simultaneous O.
The last thing Mia needs is another doomed love affair, but since she only has a week, she figures she might as well enjoy La Vie en O with Lucas while she can. But each day—and night—with him is better than the last, and suddenly her heart is telling her this is more than a rebound fling.
Is it just the seduction of Paris…or could this be the real thing?

This was such a great and fun book. There was everything I love in a book minus the angst.

The book opens up with Mia being dumped one week before the wedding of the year. She is hiding in her room wishing it was all a bad joke. She starts cutting the monogram out of the pillow cases!
“FML. That’s what I need to monogram on all this shit.”

Mia is a very list driven woman to put it mildly and plans out everything including having an outfit itinerary! Her friends convince her to go to Paris on her honeymoon alone. Reluctantly, she went. After an awful first day watching lovers kiss and swoon all over each other, she goes into a bar and meets Lucas.

Lucas is a French American in Paris visiting his family. He is not Mia’s type at all but she is drawn to him. Lucas agrees to be her tour guide in the city for one day.

The fun friendship and then relationship these to form is addicting. I laughed, I cried a little (I seem to do this a lot in books lately) and I just loved their chemistry. Melanie Harlow knows how to write a hot sex scene and thank goodness she has a lot in this book.

“Listen, I don’t know what kind of assholes you’ve been with before, but I promise you, your orgasm will not one make an appearance tonight, it will be the star of the show.” - Lucas

“No one had ever, ever made me feel this beautiful, this cherished, this out of my mind with desire.”- Mia

I was a tad disappointed that we didn’t get an epilogue and the story just ended but I am really hoping we get to see Mia and Lucas again. Let the stalking begin looking for updates on more projects from this author.

If you are looking for a fun, hot and sexy fast read I highly recommend French by Melanie Harlow.

Blog Tour: Last Breath by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick

Regan
I never really knew what misery was until the day I was kidnapped and sold for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Two months later, I'm at a brothel in Rio when I meet Daniel Hays.  He says he's here to save me, but can I trust him?  All I know of him is his sarcastic retorts and his tendency to solve every dispute with his gun.  He's also the only safe thing in my world, and I know it's wrong to fall in love with him, but I can't seem to help myself.  He says he'll protect me until his last breath but I don't know if I should believe him or even if I can.
Daniel
For the last eighteen months, I've had one goal that has dictated every action I've taken.  I've left the Army, turned paid hit man, and have befriended criminals all across the globe to find my kidnapped sister.  In every brother I raid or every human trafficking truck I stop, I hope the next face I find is my sister's.  In a hidden brothel in Rio, I find Regan Porter, bruised but not broken and still sane despite her weeks in captivity.  I should leave her behind or send her home because the last thing either of us needs right now is to get involved.  But with every passing minute, I find I can't let her go.
Please note:  this contains some scenes that readers may find upsetting or triggering.

For the first month of release, Last Breath will be sale-priced at $3.99 to reward early purchasers.  The price will revert back to its original retail listing of $4.99.

From Regan’s POV
I curl up on the mattress, hugging my legs to my chest and waiting. There will be another man soon enough, and then Freeze, so I enjoy the moment of silence while I can. My lip hurts, a bit puffy from where the last man hit me, and I touch it with my fingertips, wincing.
Then, I lay my head back against the wall, thinking. My mind is filled with the gun and the man I was forced to service, and my stomach roils uncomfortably again. I swallow hard and force myself to think of zombie movies, instead. E. I don’t know what movies begin with E. This one will require some thought. Maybe something with “Enemy” in the title.
I ponder this for minutes, staring at nothing, when there is a knock at the door again. I get to my feet automatically. God, I hope it’s not the man with the gun again. I don’t think I could stomach seeing him twice in one night.
But when the door opens, it’s not Freeze.
The man that steps in is unexpected. He’s accompanied by Senhor Gomes, the master, a man I have only seen once but hear about all the time. Gomes looked me over when I arrived and then left, as if I were an uninteresting piece of property.
The man with him is tall, good-looking, and wears a casual suit. He’s got nice brown hair, sharp eyes, and I can tell immediately from the cast of his features that he’s American.
What the fuck. Not again. Not another American jackass. It doesn’t matter if he’s American—he’s here to rape me like all the others before him. Except this time? I’ll know all the nasty, shitty words he yells into my ear.
And later, when he’s done with me and leaves, I’ll feel even dirtier because he’s only made things worse.
He looks me over, his gaze sliding to my star-spangled bikini, and I can’t help myself. “What’s the matter,” I ask, “international pussy not good enough for you?”

WARNING: If you have not read Last Hit you probably should not read Last Breath or this review.  Review has minor spoilers from Last Hit.

Last Breath is Daniel Hays and Regan Porter's story.  In Last Hit we meet Regan as Daisy's roommate.  She's in a long term relationship with a douche who is completely selfish, is a college student and regardless of her living in a crappy apartment barely making ends meet she's a spunky-fun-loving kind of person.  When she lets Daisy move in, neither of them have any idea of the trouble that's about to land on their doorstep.  Daisy, literally fresh off the farm, who's lived in confinement with her father most her life, falls for a mysterious, dark man - Nikolai - who turns out to be a hit man.  In his quest for revenge Regan is taken by mistake when the Bratva go to kidnap Daisy.  With the help of one of Nikolai's "friends", Daniel, he is able to rescue Daisy; however, Regan is sold off before they can get to her...and that's where Last Breath picks up.

Regan has been held hostage in a brothel, being used and abused by men with the right amount of money.  She spends her days making sure she doesn't give in to whatever kind of pleasure they seek.  She counts the days waiting for someone to come for her.  She's almost at a place where she thinks that maybe no one is coming...but then Daniel shows up.  She's scared, hurt, and doesn't know the truth from lies any more.  She goes with him hoping that she can escape but soon discovers that he truly is there to help her find her way home.

I knew that I would absolutely LOVE Daniel, I did in Last Hit and he proved why in Last Breath.  He's smart, sexy, loyal and strong.  He's on his own mission looking for his sister who'd been taken and thought to be sold off like Regan had.  After he finds and rescues Regan, he learns their paths aren't so far off each other.  While he fights to help her get home he finds crumbs of where his sister may be and he'll have to use Regan to get her.

Last Breath was a fantastic roller coaster of action, snarkiness, dark & gritty, sexiness.  This has easily become a new favorite series of mine.  Jessica and Jen work flawlessly together to bring this dark, mystery/suspense romance series to life and I LOVE it!

Last Hit Book One Hitman Series

Nikolai

I have been a contract killer since I was a boy. For years I savored the fear caused by my name, the trembling at the sight of my tattoos. The stars on my knees, the marks on my fingers, the dagger in my neck, all bespoke of danger. If you saw my eyes, it was the last vision you’d have. I have ever been the hunter, never the prey. With her, I am the mark and I am ready to lie down and let her capture me. Opening my small scarred heart to her brings out my enemies. I will carry out one last hit, but if they hurt her, I will bring the world down around their ears.

Daisy

I’ve been sheltered from the outside world all my life. Homeschooled and farm-raised, I’m so naive that my best friend calls me Pollyanna. I like to believe the best in people. Nikolai is part of this new life, and he’s terrifying to me. Not because his eyes are cold or my friend warns me away from him, but because he’s the only man that has ever seen the real me beneath the awkwardness. With him, my heart is at risk..and also, my life.

I watch her through my bathroom window. I've placed one of my four rented chairs in here for that express purpose. I tell myself it is not creepy, as the American girls would say, because I watch everyone. But really I watch only her.

I cannot see everything. I've never seen her nude. I've never seen inside her shower. Smartly there is no window there. But I can see her bedroom and her living room and beyond that, with my scope, her kitchen. I know her schedule. When she gets up in the morning, when she returns to her apartment. If she were a mark, I could've killed her a dozen times over by now and been in the wind.

She throws her bag onto her bed and then lies down next to it. It takes many muscles to smile, more to frown but only a few to pull the trigger. I peer down the scope and place my crosshairs over her forehead. Puff, dead.

This is a pen name for Jill Myles.
Jill Myles has been an incurable romantic since childhood. She reads all the 'naughty parts' of books first, looks for a dirty joke in just about everything, and thinks to this day that the Little House on the Prairie books should have been steamier.

After devouring hundreds of paperback romances, mythology books, and archaeological tomes, she decided to write a few books of her own - stories with a wild adventure, sharp banter, and lots of super-sexy situations. She prefers her heroes alpha and half-dressed, her heroines witty, and she loves nothing more than watching them overcome adversity to fall into bed together.

Pretty Little Things by Things by Teresa Mumert Blog Tour

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18045901-pretty-little-things

I was young enough not to understand that my life was different. Colin became the one person that I could count on to protect me. He suffered for the both of us by carrying the burden of our secret.
We were the lucky few that got a chance to start over. A fake family, a new home and a pretty little life built on lies. But while our lives continued to intertwine, we were put on very different paths. Now it was only a matter of time before they collide and the beast behind the beauty is exposed.

“What are your plans for the day, little one?” I asked, and she startled.

“I have a report I need to finish on the adverse effects of corporal punishment used on children.” I laughed and shook my head, my eyes going back to the television. “Yeah, so that will be fun. But if Connor and Grace aren’t back, I can always skip school tomorrow.”

“Not a chance.”

“I wasn’t asking.”

I looked over at her, her eyebrow raised in challenge.

“You had a private tutor.”

“I had antisocial tendencies and a habit of challenging authority.” I laughed as the credits rolled on the screen in front of us.

“I don’t doubt that.”

We fell silent as we both sat, unmoving. “So this guy…” I let my voice trail off.

“He’s just a guy.” She shrugged as she pulled on a loose thread on the blanket.

“Is he a good guy?”

“Are you?” she shot back.

“That’s a loaded question.” I stood up, stretching, and when I looked down at her, her smile fell. “What?”

“Did that hurt?”

I sighed as I thought of the marks that covered my back. “Don’t.” I walked over to the shelves of movies, scanning the titles. I didn’t know if it bothered me more that she was asking about them or that she looked upset over my injuries. I was no one for her to feel sorry for. While I’d received them for not doing what I was told, I’d earned them by following through with the orders. But answering that question perplexed me. If you take a child and never show him affection, any attention received is positive in his eyes. Coupling that with the twisted abusive behavior and dominance that was instilled in me so young, I learned to derive gratification from receiving pain as well as giving. It was a release, a way to atone for my sins.

She stood and walked up to my side. My scars should have been a warning to not get close to someone like me, but Annabel saw my dominant side as a reflection of my overprotective nature toward her. My eyes closed as her hand ran softly over my back. Her featherlight touch on my own wounds more painful than when I had received them.

“Annabel, stop,” I bit out, but she continued on, her fingers trailing over the raised welts. My body stiffened, not wanting someone to give me affection I didn’t deserve. It turned my stomach, and for once I was completely thrown off guard. So I did what I knew best, and I instilled fear in her.

“I said fucking stop,” I seethed as I grabbed her by her shoulders and slammed her small body against the movies, causing the shelves to shake. Her green eyes were wide with fright, and now I was the one desperate to touch. Her fear was palpable, and while I knew I was pushing away the one person who even remotely began to understand me, it was for her own good. She didn’t have to understand as long as she listened. But listening to me was something Annabel rarely did anymore. She’d become too comfortable in my presence, and now she ignored the alarms that would set a normal person on edge. That was what terrified me about her seeing this guy. I had no idea what kind of person he was, but I knew Annie wouldn’t be as cautious as she should be.

“Annabel…” I rested my forehead against the case, my body hovering over hers, caging her in with my arms on her shoulders. Her name came out like a plea for help.

“I-I’m sorry.”

I lifted my head and looked at her. The fear-induced stutter let me know I had succeeded in making her understand.

I took a step back from her, running my hand along my jaw before turning and leaving the room, desperate to put distance between us.

"I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I'd like to tell you a story.
