Blog Tour Review: On My Knees by Meredith Wild

Book: On My Knees
Author: Meredith Wild
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Haunted by the responsibility of caring for her troubled family, Maya Jacobs gave the only answer she could when Cameron asked her to marry him.  Years later, entrenched in a soulless professional routine, she distracts herself from the lingering regret of her decision with a “work hard, play hard” lifestyle that guarantees no man will ever find his way into her heart again.
Cameron Bridge has spent the past five years married to the military, trying to escape the painful memory of losing Maya. After fighting his own war in the desert, he starts a new life in New York City, with his siblings, Olivia and Darren, by his side.
When fate brings Maya back to him in the heart of a city filled with its own hopes and shadows, can Cameron find the girl he once loved in the woman she’s become?

This is my first Meredith Wild book and it must definitely will not be my last. I was sucked into this one something fierce.

The story starts off with out lead characters in college/ military in a committed relationship. They are spending a magical week together during a break. I LOVE a book with an amazing sex scene right in the prologue. Boy it was hot! Anyway, at the end of the week, Cameron proposes to Maya. And the outcome is heart wrenching. Maya is devastated, Cameron is devastated and I am devastated.

Five years later, they run into each other on the streets of NYC. But both of have changed so much. Maya is bitter against relationships and parties as hard as she can. Cameron is still hopelessly in love with Maya.

“I’ll take your body, but I want your heart.” ~ Cameron

Maya is a great character. She has a lifeless job just trying to get by emotionally and mentally in life. Her two best friends are booze and caffeine. Her family life growing up was non existing but she still carries on. Doing the best she can.

Cameron is just amazing. He is ex military (YUM), owns a gym and he loves Maya hard. He tended to be a bit judgey judgey which was a tad annoying and I always felt bad for Maya when he acted that way. But he love that poured out of his mouth was beyond swoon worthy.

“I want to make love to you until we can’t remember who we are. I want you drunk on nothing but us tonight.”

Meredith brought so much into this book. There was hot sex! There was undeniable connection. And most importantly, there was a message of growth. I loved watching Maya grow in this book. It was very refreshing. I highly recommend this book and I can not wait to read Cameron’s brother’s story next.

Genre: New Adult/ Coming of Age

Will their past determine their future?

Saint Ford has worked hard to achieve her childhood dream of becoming of nurse. Focused on her work and devoted to her patients, there’s no room for love. She doesn’t need a guy making waves in her calm, serene life—especially when he’s the unforgettable hottie who nearly destroyed her in high school. Dark, brooding Nash Donovan might not remember her or the terrible pain he caused. But he turned her world upside down . . . and now he’s trying to do it again.
Saint has no idea that Nash isn’t the cocky player he once was. Uncovering a devastating family secret has rocked his world, and now he’s struggling to figure out his future. He can’t be distracted by the pretty nurse he seems to meet everywhere. Still, he can’t ignore the sparks that fly between them —or how she seems so desperate to get away from him. But the funny, sweet, and drop-dead gorgeous Saint is far too amazing to give up on—especially since she’s the only thing in his life that seems to make sense.
When Nash discovers the truth about their past, he realizes he may have lost her heart before he could even fight for it. Now, Saint has to decide: is Nash worth risking herself for all over again?

Nash is book four in the Marked Men Series by Jay Crownover; you need to read the first three (Rule, Jet and Rome) before you start Nash.

I have to tell you I was so excited to get my hands on this book after reading about Nash and Saint in Rome.  The end of Rome’s book left me wanting more from Nash and Saint, once I got them in this book I was not disappointed!  This story felt real; I related to it a lot and felt like it leaves a beautiful message with you.  I think almost everyone can relate to this book in one way or another; it hits so many different issues.

Nash picks up where Rome left off; with problems with Nash’s Uncle Phil.  We know something is going on with him and we know it’s not going to be good.  Nash is a great guy, always level headed and fun to be around, oh and he’s HOT… and ummm pierced….  ;)  You can’t help but be intrigued with his character.  All the Marked Men have been friends for a LONG time and thanks to Phil became a tight family.  Nash brings Rome into the ER in Rome’s book and that’s where he was reacquainted with Saint, where she is a nurse.  Saint and the boys went to school together back in the day and Nash has always thought Saint was someone he would like to get to know.  Problem is she doesn’t want to give him the time of day.

Saint recognizes Nash immediately and she tries to steer clear of him.  But of course its not that easy .  Nash is back in the ER with Phil and Saint knows he is going to need some friends when Phil’s prognosis comes back.  Saint tries to push aside all the old feelings that Nash makes come back up to the surface.  Back in school Nash was her crush, even possibly her first love, but because she was overweight and not the “perfect girl” she knew Nash didn’t see her in any other way.  Yes, Nash smiled and tried talking to her, but after a few incidents she finally found out what the true Nash was like…. Or so that’s what she thought for the last few years.

Book four is about the past, present and future.  How can you live right now and look towards your future when you are living in the past still?  Life can be sad, ugly but wonderful if you let it.  You are your worst critic and until you love yourself you can’t really love anyone else.  This is something that everyone needs to remember and I think Jay did a wonderful job of showing us how to do it.  I know I connected to a lot of Saint’s issues and it reminded me of positive things in life that I think we all tend to forget.

Crownover photo JayCrownoverAuthorPiccopy2_zps37a4d3cd.jpg I'm supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I'm an natural redhead even though I haven't seen my real hair color in years, I'm a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I've been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that. I love to write, love to read and all I'm interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. Thanks for taking the time to check my stuff out...

Release Date ~ April 25th
Author: L.B. Simmons

Death.
For some, it’s simply one of life’s certainties, nothing more. For others, it’s merely a fleeting thought, one often overshadowed by the reckless delusion that they have been blessed with the gift of immortality.
For Aubrey Miller, death is the definition of her very existence. Overcome with the guilt resulting from the loss of her beloved family, she alters her appearance from the once beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl to that of one shrouded in complete darkness, enveloping herself in her own unbreakable fortress of solitude as a form of protection for others.
As she enters her first year of college, her goal is simple: Earn a degree with the least amount of social interaction as possible. What she never anticipates is the formation of very unlikely relationships with two people who will change her life in ways she never believed possible: Quinn Matthews, the boisterous former pageant queen, and Kaeleb McMadden, a childhood friend from her past who never really let her go.
Over the years, as their connections intertwine and grow, a seemingly indestructible bond is formed between the three…
But when death painfully reemerges, Aubrey is lost once again, burying herself deeper than ever before inside the familiar fortification of her fears.
Will the refuge of friendship, the solidarity of life-long bonds, and the power of unconditional love be enough to do the impossible?
Will they be enough to finally bring about…
The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller?

The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller by L.B. Simmons is nothing short of phenomenal. This is a hard review to write because nothing I can say will convey just how life changing this novel is. The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller is a must read novel. It’s not only on my Best of 2014 List, but it’s also on my All-Time Favorite Novels List.

I am really hesitant to reveal anything about the plot because I don’t want to give away any of the twists. I will say that this novel is nothing short of a rollercoaster. The pages are laced with humor, sarcasm, heartbreak, romance, angst, hope, more heartbreak and redemption. I fell in love with Aubrey from the start and felt her emotional struggle to find her happily ever after. Page after page I rooted for her. At times I wanted to hug her. Other times I mentally fought with her stubbornness.

I could not put this book down, but I also took longer than usual to read it. I wanted – no needed – to savor every word and allow myself to become fully immersed in this story and these characters’ lives. I ached with their pain and felt whole with their triumphs. This story is tragic yet beautiful and truly incredible. I laughed, got angry, and had silent tears running down my face during by the end.

L.B. Simmons has blown me away. Her writing is perfection and there is such finesse to her words. The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller is something you must experience for yourself. This novel is truly epic and should be immediately one-clicked. Get consumed by The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller by L.B. Simmons and experience this stunning novel from start to finish.

I love LB and I love her books. The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller is no exception. This book was beyond fantastic.

It’s “A story of discovering not only myself, but the meaning of true friendship and inconditional love. A story of some of the most difficult, yet most beautiful and awe-inspiring years of my life, in hope that you will take something away from my journey.”

This quote couldn’t be any more true. This book is about Aubrey Miller or Raven as she refers to herself as journey during her college years. She arrives at Titan University wearing car eye contacts, piercing all over her face, baggie clothes and blue and black hair. She thought that if she looked this way, people would leave her alone. Her roommate Quinn is a bubble gum pink loving energetic beauty queen and she could care less what Raven looks like.

Raven thinks she is some kind of bringer of death. That she is the reason why her family has all died, pets included. She tried to get everyone at bay so they don’t do. But Quinn and her “boarding buddy” Kaeleb McMadden penetrate her walls as the semester goes on. But Kaeleb is from Aubrey’s past that she so desperately wants to keep hidden.

Aubrey is probably one THE strongest female characters I have ever read. Kaeleb is by far one of the most patient and loving. Quinn is a great side kick and without her there throughout Aubrey’s journey, it would feel like it was missing an important piece. I will be hounding the author for her story soon, I assure you.

L.B. Simmons takes us on an emotional journey in this book. I laughed very hard and ugly cried even harder. The relationships she built in this book are amazing. I really lived this book. I think the best part of this whole book taught me a very important lesson.

Every being in this world males am impact on at least one person they encounter during their lifetime. You can change the course of someone’s life by just a kind word, a hateful one, or even by simply choosing not to say anything at all. Every choice you make has the potential to create a ripple effect, trickling into and affecting the lives of others.”

I can not recommend The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller enough. This is seriously an amazing book. I am positive it will be on my list for top books in 2014.

“Thank you so much, Quinn. This day has been…unbelievable. And I owe it all to you. You have no idea.” My voice trembles a bit with the admission, because she really has no idea what she’s done for me today.
I feel normal.
A normal girl, about to have a normal birthday celebration with her friends, in a normal (albeit spectacular) dress, with normal hair and make-up.
The only thing that’s missing is a pair of normal shoes.
“Shoes! I need shoes!” I exclaim.
“No, you don’t.” Quinn giggles and reaches for the knob of my bedroom door.
“What? Why wouldn’t I need shoes?”
That makes no sense.
She’s drunker than I thought.
That’s it, I’m officially hiding the champagne.
“You’ll see,” she says just as there’s a knock at the front door.
She winks. “Trust me. Just, stay in here. Don’t come out until someone comes to get you.”
After Quinn quietly shuts the door behind her, I remain seated. As the sounds of Kaeleb’s murmur filters into my room, a nervous excitement flitters through my belly and spreads into my chest. My joy takes flight and I breathe in deeply, contentment pumping enthusiastically with each thrumming heartbeat.
Damn, it feels good to be alive.
I don’t have to wait for long. After a very loud squeal from Quinn in the other room, there’s a knock at my door. My pulse kicks up and I rise from the bed, smoothing out my dress. With a glance in the mirror, I pluck a couple of sections of my new hair with my fingers and set them back into place. “Come in,” I remark, turning in the direction of the door.
The handle turns and as Kaeleb pokes his head around the corner, his eyes find mine. His eyebrows rise as his mouth falls slightly open, and he breaks my gaze as his focus shifts to take in my hair, my exposed neck and the line of my dress. He holds his stare briefly at the crystalline sash lining my waist, and then slowly drifts down to my smoothly-shaven legs and perfectly painted toenails. The left side of his mouth quirks up as he clears his throat, frozen in place. He tears his scrutiny away from my feet to fully step into the room, then turns away from me to shut the door.
I take advantage of the 1.5 seconds his back is turned, and survey him from head to toe. His light-blue button-up is folded to his elbows, displaying the prominence of the flexed muscles along his forearms. As he places both palms on the door and leans into them, his shirt rides up enough for me to see the designs on the back pockets of his dark jeans. They hug his ass perfectly, and for the first time in my life, I want to slide my hands right into those pockets just to feel the hardness of his toned body.
My fingers itch with the need to touch him, but I maintain control while Kaeleb braces against the door, inhaling and exhaling deeply. He stays planted there for a few more seconds until I suddenly begin to feel self-conscious. I run my hands over my hair and dress to make sure everything is as it should be.
Just as I start to ask him if he’s all right, he whips around with a full smile on his face. A few long strides later, and he’s standing right in front of me. Raising both hands, he traces the tips of his fingers along the sides of my cheeks, leaving a scorching trail as they run down my neck and thread themselves into the hair at my nape. With his thumbs underneath my chin, he tilts my head back and looks me directly in the eyes.
“You look amazing, Sunshine. Truly breathtaking.” His head dips slightly and he runs his lips tentatively along mine, the movement so sensual I can’t keep my hands off of him any longer. Fisting his shirt in my hands, I pull him into me and press my mouth hard against his, the need to taste him overriding my caution. A whimper rises in my throat and escapes into his mouth as his tongue slides in between my lips, slowly and deliberately, taking his time to stroke and caress mine. His hold tightens as his fingers curl deeper into my hair, the tinge of pain sending shockwaves of pleasure coursing through my body until they land right in between my legs, the throbbing sensation growing with each strike.
After another gentle sweep of his tongue, he lessens the kiss and pulls back slightly. His lips brush against mine before they slide over to the corner of my mouth, up along my cheek, and then rest them against my ear as he breathes, “Happy birthday. The dress is phenomenal.”
