Blog Tour: The Rhythm of My Heart by Velvet Reed

Grace Rivers is your everyday twenty-five year old. She could have the world at her feet, but instead chooses to help run the family business. After experiencing great loss early in her life, Grace values what's most important: her family and friends. But she aches to find that certain someone—that one great, passionate love who values family as much as she does.

Cole Tierney loves his life. He has a wonderful family, a loyal best friend and a successful career as an ER doctor. The only downside is he wants someone to share it with. After being used and left heartbroken, he wants to find someone who will love him for him and not his or his family's status.

"Every beat my heart makes is for you. Every time it beats faster it's because of you—because you're near me, because of your smile—because you take my breath away."

Their two hearts collide by chance and an undeniable connection is quickly made.

But when others are plotting against their happiness, will their love flatline, or will the rhythm of their hearts continue to beat as one?

I really don't know what to say about this book. Is it good? Was it enjoyable? The answer would be yes to both. There is just something I can't explain as to why I can't rate it higher than three and a half hearts. Let me try to explain. Hmmm...

The story starts out with Grace at home with her niece, Ruby. Ruby falls and gets hurt and Grace has to rush her to the ER. It is there that she meets Dr. Cole Tierney. There is an instant attraction between the two, and Cole is determined to get to know her. He books an appointment to get his car serviced at Grace's father's shop where she also works. Their relationship blossoms from there.

All the characters were very well developed. Each one had distinct personalities. I found them fun, and just well, solid. I was able to connect emotionally with each character. I hope that each one will get their own stories, because, yes, I would continue reading this series.

For the most part, the storyline is flawless. It has a really good flow and kept me interested. Until a certain point. I got frustrated with where the story went. Did I see it coming? Yes, I did and that is what frustrated me. I almost added this book to my dnf shelf. However, for the sake of curiosity and loyalty to the characters I really liked (don't judge, I know you get attached, too), I pushed through. I'm glad I did. After the hump, it ended up being good and enjoyable again.

One problem I had with the plot is the suspense aspect of this story. I guess someone is stalking and is obsessed with Grace. HOWEVER, we only get a few snippets of this "stalker." This story felt like more if a contemporary romance, but then the author decided she wanted it to be a romantic suspense so she threw those parts in. To be honest, the first snippet the author included intrigued me. Romantic suspense is actually one of my fave genres, so I was actually a bit excited. But then nothing really happened. So each subsequent glimpse of stalking(?) just felt thrown in and threw the story off for me.

This book is not the end of Grace and Cole's story. There will be another book, or at least I hope there will be. The author leaves us hanging at the end and I need to know what happens!

With our bodies aligned perfectly together, we dance; swaying along with the music as it changes and the start of “Heartbeat” by Enrique Iglesias penetrates through the room. This song is perfect because not only is my heart racing, but I can feel Cole’s beating wildly against my back. The lyrics speak volumes; Cole is already stealing my heart… I can feel it.
So lost in the song, it takes me a second to realize that my hair has been pulled to the side and Cole’s lips are peppering soft wet kisses along my neck and shoulder.
Goosebumps break out across my skin and desire ripples its way through my system. His touch is all-consuming and by God, I want and need to be consumed. “Grace,” he whispers as he kisses and licks my ear lobe. My body shudders in reaction and moves closer to him allowing contact with the very hard and impressive bulge that presses into my lower back.
Dear God, is it normal to feel like this so soon after meeting someone?
I turn in his arms without breaking contact and look directly into those bright blue eyes, which are heated and sparkling with desire. My gaze moves to his lips as his tongue trails across them and I lose all control. Throwing myself forward, I wrap my arms tightly around his neck and crash my lips to his.
As everything around us fades away, Cole’s arms engulf my body completely so that there isn’t even a millimeter of space between us. His hungry lips assault mine and I can feel the need radiating off him in waves. Our lips part, our tongues meet and embrace, dancing with each other in the confines of our mouths.
His taste is exquisite and his technique exceptional as he takes control of the kiss. I vaguely register his hands roaming my body as my fingers tangle further into his hair, pushing his head closer to mine. I don’t know how long we stand there so completely wrapped up in each other, but when we both pull back, our chests are heaving and our breathing labored.
Cole leans forward and rests his forehead against mine. My eyes close as I relish the sweet gesture. “Most spectacular first kiss ever, Sweet Cheeks.”
My heart swells at the comment and his new name for me. I really like it. “I couldn’t agree with you more,” I simply reply, knowing I will always remember this moment forever.

Blog Tour: The Request (Part 1) by Marquita Valentine

Roman Smith ~ Shopkeeper by day. Assassin by night.

The undercover Russian contract killer has never turned down an assignment that rids the world of scum. But this … request is the first time his conscience gets the best of him.

Only, he has a good reason—Everly Andrews, the woman who saved him from dying and has no clue who or what he really is. There’s nothing Roman won’t do to keep Everly in the dark, even if it means losing her in the process.

“Hurting you is the last thing I want to do. I might as well cut off my hand or cut out my heart... you are undeserving of such pain.” My fa├žade is fading. The rhythm of my speech falling into a more familiar cadence.

Everly’s hand wraps around my wrist, gently tugging. I allow her to pull my hand away. I close my eyes and lift away from her slightly. She lets go of me, but doesn’t move from her spot.

Cool air brushes my chest and I open my eyes, glancing down to see her small hands working on the buttons of my shirt.

“What are you doing?” I ask, though I know the answer. Or at least, I think I know the answer.

“Getting you out of these wet clothes.”

“My jacket is in the way.”
“Then take it off.” She leans forward, pressing a kiss to my chest, and I cup the back of her head.

  “Don’t—”

“Stop pushing me away.” She grazes her teeth over a nipple, and I bite back a curse.

“You didn’t let me finish,” I say, hooking a finger under her chin and forcing her gaze to mine. “Don’t. Stop.”

“My sweater’s still wet, too.” Then she goes back to pressing tiny kisses on my chest. I dig my fingers into her dark hair, taking out the pins holding it in place. Silky curls fall down and around her, like a curtain. I can’t see what she’s doing but bloody fucking hell, I can feel it.

  I can feel her.

The hairpins fall to the floor, nearly silent plinks. I shrug out of my jacket, carefully concealing my gun in it as I ball the material up and toss it beside me. My fingers find the hem of her sweater and slowly edge it up. I’ve been waiting for this moment and want to take my time.

It's no secret that I avoid cliffhangers at all costs. For me, it's the time between books. I read so many books that I forget what happened and then I have to fit in a reread, then if it's more than one book I have to fit two or more in. You know where I'm going with this...I accepted this series because of the close release dates. There really isn't time for me to forget all the details. I went in knowing that I wasn't going to get a nice tidy conclusion in books one and two, and I'm okay with that  because there is an end in sight. What's the point if this rambling you ask? Well, I know I'm not the only one out there that feels this was about the cliffy. So take this as a heads up fellow cliffy haters. There isn't a big cliffhanger at the end of this book, but there is no conclusion. At. All. And it's okay. Go ahead and read it; I think it’ll be worth the wait.

The author pulled me right into the story. Roman is a book store owner by day and assassin by night. He isn't just any assassin, though, he only takes contracts on the "bad guys." There's this girl, Everly, that comes in to the book store every week.  They like each other, buy won't admit it. She's too shy and he is trying to keep her safe.

In this part of the series, we get to see some assassin action. We get inside Roman's head, which I really enjoyed. I also really liked the dialogue between these two characters. This is a well rounded first "part" to the series and I can't wait for more.

Changing Forever by Lisa De Jong Blog Tour

Title: Changing Forever (Rain 2, can be read as a stand alone)
Author: Lisa De Jong
Age Group: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Designer: Mae I Design

I’ve always let my past dictate my future, letting it paint a picture of exactly what I don’t want to be. Where I don’t want to end up.

Drake Chambers is as arrogant as I am stubborn. A college quarterback, a national star. I thought he was just another one of those guys … the type every girl should stay away from, but he’s carrying more than the weight of the football team on his shoulders.

He unravels the feelings and beliefs I’ve held onto for so long.

I thought we had it all figured out. Two people who’d finally found their happily ever after, but the past always has a way of sneaking into the present.

With one decision, everything changes … forever.

I was so excited when I saw this book sitting on my kindle waiting for me. I absolutely loved When It Rains and HAD to read this one and let me tell you I was not disappointed one bit.

Changing Forever is Emery and Drake’s story. It was not as emotional as When It Rains, but it has it’s fair share of pulling at your heart strings.  Emery is Kate’s, from When it Rains, roommate. She hasn’t had a very easy life. She has put everything she has into getting into college with a scholarship and has no plans to let anything get in her way.

Then enters Drake Chambers. He is the super hot quarter back of the college’s football team. He has one thing on his mind, and that is to finish college and get into the pros. He has too much at stake taking care of his mom and two sisters to let anything get in his way.

Emery and Drake are assigned to work together in their first class together. Neither really like each other at first but also feel something, not really sure why each other are getting under their skin. It was a nice change of pace to have the main characters not fall instantly in love. I loved their banter back and forth and when they first get together….boy was it hot.  Their relationship wasn’t easy. They both have pasts that play a part in what they want for their future and get in the way of what they truly want, even if they don’t know it yet.

This story was heartbreakingly beautiful. I couldn’t put it down once I started and finished within 24 hours of starting. Lisa De Jong has a way of pulling you in and making you feel everything the characters are going through. I loved that we got to see Kate again, even if we were reminded why our hearts were broken to pieces in When It Rains. I can’t wait to read the 3rd book in the series, Living with Regret. It will be Rachel’s story, who was a friend of Emery and Kate’s.

Lisa De Jong is a wife, mother and full-time number cruncher who lives in the Midwest. Her writing journey involved insane amounts of coffee and many nights of very little sleep but she wouldn't change a thing. She also enjoys reading, football and music. She is the author of When It Rains, After the Rain, Plastic Hearts and Glass Hearts.
