Title: Beautiful Redemption
Author: Jamie McGuire
Release date: January 26, 2014
If A Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever. But what if he didn't love you, first?
No-nonsense Liis Lindy is an agent of the FBI. Deciding she is married only to her job, she breaks off her engagement and transfers from Chicago to the field office in San Diego. She loves her desk. She is committed to her laptop. She dreams of promotions and shaking hands with the director after cracking an impossible case.
Special Agent in Charge Thomas Maddox is arrogant, unforgiving, and ruthless. He is tasked with putting away some of the world’s toughest criminals, and he is one of the best the Bureau has to offer. Though, as many lives as he’s saved, there is one that is beyond his reach. Younger brother Travis is faced with prison time for his involvement in a basement fire that killed dozens of college students, and the media want a conviction. Travis’s only savior is his unusual tie to the mob. In a deal that will spare his brother, Thomas has agreed to recruit Travis into the FBI.
Liis is stubborn, defiant, and yet somehow softens Thomas’s rough edges, making her the perfect agent to accompany him to the ceremony. Posing as a couple, they must travel to Travis & Abby’s beach vow renewal and give him the news, but when the pretending ends, she finds herself wondering if they were pretending at all.
In the second installment of the Maddox Brothers books, experience firsthand the mysterious world of the elusive Thomas Maddox, and how good love can be when you’re not the first, but the last.
Beautiful Redemption is book two in the Maddox Brother Series. You do need to read Beautiful Oblivion before you read BR. Actually I think you need to read all the books starting with Beautiful Series before you read the Maddox Brother Series.
I won’t lie, going into Beautiful Redemption I was nervous. I wasn’t a big fan of Beautiful Oblivion. I had a vision of Trent in my head and when his story didn’t meet that vision I was highly disappointed. That’s the problem though. When you put expectations on a book, they rarely meet them. That being said, BO left us with an ending that had you saying WTH; and I wanted more immediately. So naturally I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book.
We don’t know too much about Thomas from the other books. Just that he’s the oldest, helped take care of the boys after their Mom died, and that he’s hiding a big secret from his family - that he works for the FBI. We find out that Thomas is actually pretty high up in the FBI and has quite the reputation of being an asshole. After Cami broke it off with him, it seems the man doesn’t have a heart at all. We also learn that Thomas has been protecting Travis since the University fire and that he’s getting ready to out himself to Travis in order to save him.
Liis Lindy (pronounced like geese but with an L) is also an FBI Agent, a damn good one, especially when it comes to translating foreign languages. She recently had broken up with her fiancé of seven years in Chicago and transferred to the San Diego FBI office. She hopes to make it to Virginia at the FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime.
Thomas and Liis have a lot in common. They are both married to their work. Work is their top priority, always has been, always will be. They both are swearing off love for the time being and they both are stubborn as shit. They happen to meet at a bar the night before her new position starts. They don’t go into too much detail with each other on who they are or what they do for a living. Just two people meeting in a bar. Well…. this should make for an awkward day at the office soon!
I was very happy we get to see the characters everyone loves. ALL the Maddox brothers, Abby, America, Shepley, Cami, Jim (the original Mr. Maddox, who I absolutely adore. I really hope Jim gets a book. Hopefully his is the last one of the series and has a big HEA) and Uncle Jack and Aunt Deana. We also get to meet some new people who also work for the FBI. Val, Sawyer and Marks. All three are fun and kept the story entertaining.
Beautiful Redemption doesn’t disappoint with answering some of the burning questions we were left with in the previous books. Within the first half of the story quite a few holes were filled which made me very happy. We also get new turns and twists which bring more questions to the table. This story brings love, humor, mystery, action and redemption to the table. I do want more Travis though! Having him in the story just makes me miss him.
Since I didn’t have any expectations going into this story, I just wanted answers, this story didn’t disappoint. I have faith the rest of the series will be just as good. I’m very much #TeamMaddox and love the interaction when all the boys are together. This story just re-confirmed why I love this series to begin with!
“You can love someone without wanting to be with them. Just like you can want to be with someone before you love them.”
Beautiful Redemption is the second book in the Maddox Brother’s series. This in Thomas’ story. If you read Beautiful Oblivion you’ve been dying for this book just as much as I have. I didn’t love Trent and Cami’s story as much as I wanted to but it gave us Thomas so I’m good now.
Thomas as we know has had his heart broken. Shattered. He threw himself into work and was a grade A ass*** * to his co- workers. Until…. Liis Lindy.
Liis was totally kick ass. Thomas didn’t scare her, she stepped right up and spoke her mind. Liis was also an agent and transferred to San Diego. The sparks between Thomas and Liis were flying all over the place, the bedroom, the office, the elevators. However, they kept putting those sparks out. Now, this is where it started to get repetitive. The back and forth with these really went on for a long time and I wanted to reach through my kindle and smack them upside the head! But when they were together, WAOH! It was great.
One thing that I loved in Beautiful Redemption was this book really tied into Travis and Abby. It was great to see some of the missing years that were jumped ahead to in the ending of Walking Disaster.
I am interested to see who the next brother will get a book. There was very little set up for the next one so it will be interesting to see who Jamie McGuire gives up next.
