I absolutely loved Becoming Rain and highly recommend you get your hands on
this novel. This book is the second in her Burying Water Series, but it can be read
as a stand alone.
Luke wants to go behind the scenes of his uncle's business. He knows Rust is doing off the table deals, and Luke can't resist the lure of money, cars, and women. Clara wants to destroy the illegal activities Rust is involved in. The FBI is sending her in as an undercover agent to get the scoop that will bring this empire down. The deeper Clara sinks into her life as Rain, the harder it becomes to dig herself out.
I loved Clara/Rain. She was ambitious and tough with a sharp personality. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and build a facade of lies in order to better herself professionally. As much as I wanted to dislike her for her deceitful tactics, I couldn't. I fell in love with Luke when he was introduced in Burying Water and was excited to get inside his head. He is a victim of circumstance, but also knowingly gets involved in the illegal aspects of his uncle's business. Tucker has created these characters that push you. Your heart flip flops between hurting for their misfortunes and disliking them for knowingly putting themselves in a bad situation in the first place.
This story is beautifully written. The further I went, the more invested I found myself in these characters and their outcomes. Moments would make my heart melt for our hero and heroine, and I'd forget their relationship was fabricated. They were just two people with a real connection. Twists unveiled themselves at the most unexpected places, and the story keeps you guessing until the very last page. Just because you're over 80% into Becoming Rain doesn't mean the story is tapering off into a happily ever after.
Once again I was lost in a world that was gritty and real. Everyone has an ulterior motive and the line between good and bad is practically nonexistent. Becoming Rain was a spectacular book from start to finish and I highly recommend reading this gem from K.A. Tucker.
