Drake Stevenson has inner demons that he has been fighting for many years. Plagued by memories of his past and of those he failed to protect, he turns to alcohol to dull the nightmares that haunt him at nightly.

Enter Lana...Drake's "Angel".

When Drake sees Lana for the first time he feels an instant attraction. He feels that he can breathe after all these years of torture until he finds out that she is only seventeen years old. That's a deal breaker. He pushes his true feelings aside and gives her the only thing he can offer and still have her in his life...his friendship. They become best friends and know each other inside and out.

“I hate fighting with you,” I muttered as I set her on her feet. “I’m not sure I’d survive if I really pissed you off.”

Lana eventually turns eighteen but Drake feels that he still can't be with her. He knows that she has feelings for him as well but believes because of her age that she has some growing to do and thinks that he isn't good enough for her. In a drunken moment things change for the pair and the next morning Drake is unaware of what happened, leaving Lana hurt and upset.

With his feelings growing for Lana, Drake takes his brother, Shane, up on his offer for a night out in Vegas that leads to the final crack in Lana's already shattering heart.

“It means that I love you, Drake. And I know that I’m not supposed to. All you want from me is to be your friend. And I am, but I can’t turn off my emotions. I can’t hide how I feel. I’ve tried.”

Lana decides to remove herself from Drake's life by enrolling in a college over 3000 miles away thinking that distance from him will mend her heart.

After losing his Angel, Drake realizes that if he plans to have the future that he wants that he will have to get his life together and become the man that she deserves. He enters in rehab and works on making himself better.

Once Drake is better, he takes a job that brings him closer to Lana. Once they see each other again, even after all the time they have spent apart, sparks fly and the couple can not deny their feelings for one another for long.



When secrets from the past come into the present will Drake and Lana become stronger or will dealing with issues that have never been faced send Drake back on the path to self destruction?

This is the third book in The Rocker series by Terri Anne Browning and I have to say this one was my favorite so far. I love that we have seen Drake fighting his demons from Emmie, Jesse, and Layla's POV but now seeing it from Lana and his POV it's like discovering it all over again. I love that Lana is Drake's 'salvation' and that he
needs
her. I love the strength that Lana gives him to heal and to look forward to the future.

Drakes POV

My head snapped around at the sound of that voice, and I was sure that my heart stopped in my chest when I met the whiskey colored eyes of an angel. Her long, midnight black hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Her brown-amber eyes were huge in her beautiful face. She had plump lips that were almost bee stung and a nose that was tipped at the end. The angel was tall, her waist long and slender, but she had curves that made my body ache to hold her against me.

This angel was young; I would say no more than twenty-one…Layla introduced the angel. “Lana, this is Jesse and that’s Drake. Guys, this is my seventeen year old sister, Lana.”

Seventeen. Seventeen. SEVENTEEN!

Seven-fucking-teen!

The number bounced around in my already throbbing head, and I thought I was going to go mad from it. No! Not seventeen. She had to be older. I couldn’t be attracted in a seventeen year old girl.

“It’s nice to meet you, Lana,” Jesse said as he stared at the angel.

I was fascinated by the pretty pink that flooded her cheeks. “Yeah, you too,” she murmured and glanced at her sister. “Layla, can you help me with something in the bathroom?”

The sisters left us alone in the living room, and Jesse dropped down on the sofa beside of me. “Dude, you look pale.”

I wasn’t surprised. I think I had actually felt the color drain from my face when Layla had said the word seventeen. I felt sick to my stomach for an entirely different reason than the ones that I had woken up to.

Lana’s POV

Sometime much, much later, my tears finally started to dry and the cold that had numbed me started to thaw enough to make me realize that I should be mad. I was in love with Drake, and after Friday night, I was sure that he was in love with me too, or that he at least cared about me as more than a friend… Now, with him fucking some other girl in his hotel room, unconcerned that I would hear him, I knew that I had been wrong.

All I would ever be to him was his friend, and I would have to accept that. But there was no way I could carry on the way we had been the last few months. I wasn’t that good of an actress. I sucked at pretending, especially when my feelings were involved. And they didn’t get any more involved than they were right now.

It would kill me to have to see him day after day, knowing that he had gone from lying in bed with me one night to screwing some other chick the next. Maybe that was how it worked in the rocker world—okay, so I knew that that was how it worked in the rocker world, but I couldn’t deal with that kind of messed up shit.

As the night dragged on, I realized what I had to do. It was going to be hard. It meant doing things I had promised never to do, but sometimes you had to do what was best for you, not what was best for someone else.

Epiphany is a book with a little bit of the paranormal and a whole lot of suspense. This book kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat the entire time! There were even a few times that I had to set my Kindle down just to catch my breath and try to process what was happening. It captured me from the very 1^st paragraph and even days after reading it, it’s still on my mind.

Mackenzie (Mac) is a shattered girl running from her past. She has moved to a new town to try to start over. She just wants to find a way to live life again with some semblance of happiness. Her new friend, Six, is determined to help her. I adored Six from the moment she was introduced. She is a down to earth, bubbly character; someone you could actually be friends with.

Aidan is also a newcomer to the town. He’s the tall, dark, and handsome man that we all love to read about. Add a little mystery to the mix and he is delicious. Of course he has secrets of his own and isn’t who he seems to be. He’s hit a rough patch in this life and is looking for his own brand of justice. He isn’t looking for love or friends, but fate has other plans.

Mac is a bit of a psychic and has been dreaming about Aidan for years, so when he shows up in real life, she knows that he has some role to fill in her life. As much as they resist each other, as Mac’s dreams become more gruesome and turning up in headlines, they begin to drift closer and to rely on each other.

Mac and Aidan aren’t the only characters with secrets in this book though. It seems like at almost every turn something new is being revealed. Even with all the things going on in this book, never once did I feel like the author was just throwing more surprising tidbits in just for the hell of it. She weaves just an awesome tale and each new surprise is integral to the story. I gasped, said “NO,” and hit my head too many times to count. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author proved me wrong.

If you enjoy paranormal or suspense, then this is definitely the book for you. This is a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to see what maze the author, Christina Jean Michaels, will bring us through in the next book. The only thing I know for sure is that I’ll be snatching book 2, Awakening, up on release day!

I’m not sure why I did it, but I got up two hours early, took an extra long shower, made sure my hair cooperated, and put on my good makeup. Okay, that’s a lie. I know exactly why I put so much effort into getting ready. Today, I am supposed to see Cohen. Not only am I supposed to see Cohen, but we also have plans to go out to dinner. Once again, I’m unsure about what he wants to discuss, but this time, I’m trying not to make any assumptions. Also on the agenda, I hope to not injure him or myself while we’re spending time together.

I walk into the office with my chin up and a big smile on my face. If he is already here, I want to look like I’ve been fine. I sure as hell don’t want him thinking that I’ve been moping around and pining away for him since last Friday morning. Making my way through the maze of cubicles toward my office, I see no sign of him. I let out a sigh as I step through my door. I place my workbag next to the desk, and I turn to glance at the clock.

Something moves in my peripheral vision. It scares me enough to make me jump back, causing me to fall into my large potted plant-tree-thing in the corner. To avoid hitting the ground, I sit cockeyed in the pot. My face is covered in limbs and large green leaves. Peeking through the human-eating plant, I can see Cohen sitting on the comfortable sofa with one hand held over his mouth. I don’t hear any sounds, but from the looks of it, he’s laughing. For some reason, my usual standoffish self takes a holiday. I launch myself up from my seat in the pot holding the plant, and I take brisk steps toward him.

“What are you doing in my office? Do you enjoy scaring the crap out of women and causing near catastrophes? Or is it just when you see me?”

His eyes grow wide, and those sexy wrinkles beside his eyes fade. Thank God. I don’t think I could hold on to my angry attitude if he kept smiling.

“Mr. Hargrove wanted me to tell you that we’ll be meeting in the conference room at eight thirty. I have to leave by the end of the week, so we need to get started on the rest of our project. I came to tell you, but you weren’t here yet, so I made myself comfortable. I’m sorry if I scared you.”

“Right. Okay. Well, you can go now. I’ll see you at the meeting,” I say, turning toward my desk.

With my shoulders back and head held high, I walk over to my desk chair and sit. Looking back at Cohen, I give him the meanest stare I can muster.

“See you there.” He stands to leave, but then hesitates as if he wants to say something else. His mouth is open, but then he bites down on his bottom lip, holding back.

“Did you need something else?”

“Actually, I was just going to tell you that unless you enjoy the feel of sitting on bark, you should probably find a mirror and wipe off your skirt.”

You have got to be kidding me!

He walks out of the office with the wrinkles by his eyes reappearing.

Crossing Paths was a great little read. I enjoyed every minute of it. June and Caroline became instant friends at a party in college and were inseparable after that moment. After college both woman moved to Texas, where June’s family is from, to start their careers. 

Soon after moving to Texas, Caroline is introduced Liam who just so happens to be off limits to her. She struggles with her attraction towards him and the idea that she shouldn’t be. Liam, who is also struggling with the same feelings, thinks he is ready to prove his family wrong and maybe settle down. Do they keep fighting these feeling or give into them?

June is sent on a business trip and that is where she sees him…Cohen. She is instantly attracted to him. When he passes by her on the plane she thoroughly embarrasses herself which leaves a lasting impression on Cohen.  They end up crossing paths again and Cohen feels things for June that he hasn’t felt in a long time for anyone, but is he ready? Is he ready to move on and share a part of himself with June? Will June see past Cohen’s actions and see what he really feels?

Crossing Paths is from the POV of all four characters. In the beginning it took a little bit to get used to jumping back and forth between the different points of view, but I ended up loving it. I loved being in the head of the men and seeing how different they saw things than the women. This was such a sweet read that had a little bit everything. It made me smile, it made me mad, it made me sad and even shed some tears.  This was a great debut novel for Melanie Stinnett and I can’t wait to read more from her.

I have enjoyed reading and writing since I was very young. Some of my fondest memories from childhood are of spending time with my mom or grandma reading a good book. Over the years, it never crossed my mind that writing my own novel would be an attainable goal. After reading several independently published novels by Jamie McGuire, Colleen Hoover and others, I decided I needed to give that dream a chance.

When I’m not reading and writing, I enjoy spending time with my three favorite guys: my husband and my two little boys.
