“You’re not leaving… if you leave, I can’t help you. Just stay. We will have a press conference. Explain…” I jump in, cutting my mother off.“There is nothing to explain… I didn’t do anything wrong.” My brow furrows at what she is trying to insinuate. She shrugs impassively. “Wow, you don’t even believe me.” I shake my head in disbelief.I look to my father, who is too engrossed in his work to care what we’re discussing.How can he just sit there ignoring us?Her brow raises when she looks at him, then she shakes her head as though she’s thinking the same thing I am.What did I ever do to make you want to pretend as though I don’t exist?“I can promise you one thing… Princess.” Disdain drips from her lips when she says it.I sit straight, my shoulders set back, to show I’m not so easily intimidated by her anymore. Although my stomach knots, telling me otherwise. “If you leave this house again, it will be your last time.” Her head tips to the side to study me. “Or… maybe it won’t…” she muses.It will.“What incentive do I have to stay?” My lips pucker and curl up with indignation.There’s nothing she can do once I’m gone this time.“I would watch your tone.” Her voice drops, making the warning into a threat, before it perks back up. “And don’t make that face, this was your father’s idea.” She nods to him. “Isn’t that right, Dear?” Her teeth clench together as a tight smile forms on her lips.“Yes, she’s right.” He looks up at me for a split second, a strange but all too familiar look in his eyes, then goes back to working.The look, if you’re wondering, is what normal people wear when they are guilty of something. But a man who has no care or concern for anyone but himself couldn’t possibly have anything to be guilty of. Unless in some strange twist of events he is deciding to care after years of overlooking me.That’s highly unlikely though.Twelve…I was twelve when he no longer saw me, when he no longer laughed with me, and when I was left to be raised properly… like her… a woman I could never be like.His wife and my mother…

Pawns is book two in the Fate Series.
You do need to read book one, Adjournment, before you start this
one. That being said, if you don’t like
being left wanting more from a story and have to wait for the next book to
arrive, you may want to wait to read these books until all books are released. I personally love this series and can’t wait

Hanging
Pawns is book two but it follows around two different lead characters. Adjournment was Simon and Sidney’s story;
Hanging Pawns is Josh and Mea’s. We met
both Josh and Mea in Adjournment but don’t really know too much about
them. The story takes us back to
college where Josh and Mea meet in 2002.
Hanging
Pawns is written in Mea’s point of view and starts with us getting to know her
and her family. Mea is the outcast of
her very wealthy family. Her mother seems
like a straight up bitch while her father just basically ignores everything
going on. Mea’s sisters are married but
really their marriages are for money not for love - just how their mother wants
it. Mea doesn’t want to be married for
money she wants the real deal; she also can’t agree with anything her mother
wants. After an accident that happens,
Mea decides it’s time to leave home for good and start a life of her own. Something her father always tells her sticks
in her mind, “Time is precious; make sure
you always keep track of it” and that is exactly what she is going to do.
While in line registering for college courses, Josh
notices Mea. He decides to make his move
on her and cuts the line. Pricilla, who
we met in Adjournment, is standing behind Mea when Josh makes his move. She is the same nasty bitch that she was in
the first book and decides to tell Josh that Mea is basically trash; that he
shouldn’t waste his time. Mea is
intrigued by Josh when he stands his ground, disregarding Pricilla’s warning
about her but she still wants nothing to do with him. Mea bides her time in line
to be called to register so they can just go their separate ways. Easy right?
No…fate has a nasty way of interfering and Josh just seems so perfect.
Makes me wonder what else is going on that we haven’t seen yet.

at you, I saw my entire world, and it was as though someone turned a light switch. I just wanted to be the one to turn yours on”
I’m not one
for spoiler reviews so that’s basically all I am going to give you on story
line. I will tell you all of my
favorites are back in book two. The
triplets! Yes! Simon,
Dean and Chase and Oh. My. God. they are even better this round. Molly and Morgan have big roles just like the
brothers. I love the interaction between
these two families, its freaking hilarious and keeps you interested the whole
time. We also get more of the whole
Chandler family and what it was like not having Sidney around during the
holidays.
This story, just
like the last one, is one big freaking puzzle.
A couple times I found myself switching back over to Adjournment to see
if I was remembering something correctly and then flipping back to Hanging
Pawns. Some pieces are put together
while others just keep getting more interesting. I’m VERY curious as to where these stories
are leading and what these McAllister brothers are up to! Well…to be honest what the hell EVERYONE is
up to!
Book One
Emersyn Vallis is a first time author with Adjournment being the first book in the Fated Series. Currently residing on the east coast with her husband and three children she is typically mistaken for being quiet and reserved her friends often describe her as a spastic spider monkey and always the first to be there with her quick wit to pull you back up when you’re feeling down. After reading as a hobby for most of her life it wasn’t until she had discovered R. L. Mathewson’s ‘Neighbor from Hell Series’ and Tara Sivec’s ‘Playing with Fire Series’ that she came up with the idea to fuse comedy and suspense together and her passion for writing was born.
