Becoming Somebody is the follow up to Being Nobody. You must read the first book before you read this story. While I think you would be able to follow the story okay, I don't think you will fully grasp the story and the characters of you don't. If you haven't read book one, stop reading this review. There are spoilers to book one in this review.
For the most part I really enjoyed this book. I felt that the author kept the story at a good pace which kept me interested. It's a great follow up to where book one ended. As you'll remember, Sam was in witness protection. She had to leave her boyfriend Dev behind when she had to relocate. He could not go with her because he was working undercover on a case.
In this book, Sam is now safe. Her time in witness protection is over and she is free to live her life however she wants. She heads back to Chicago in hopes of finding Dev. There's just one hiccup. She now has a daughter. Dev's daughter. He knows nothing about her. When he learns that Sam is back in town he runs to her as quickly as he can. This is their story of reuniting and building a future. This book did end on a bit of a cliffhanger, nothing too shocking, but it definitely leaves you wanting more.
Now I said that I mostly liked this story. There were a couple of issues I had. First, Sam's attitude toward Dev when they finally see each other. I felt she was a bit irrational at times. I didn't understand her anger towards him. There were glimpses in the story where I just thought she was a bit unnecessarily bitchy. Then, there were a few situations that didn't make sense to me. I really can't say which situations without giving spoilers to this book, so you'll just have to read the book to see if you have the same issues.
However, all in all I enjoyed this book. Well, both books in the series. I'm interested to see where the author takes us next. Book 3 in the series is about two different characters, Jade and Tiff, who I really liked, so I can't wait for their story. But, Dev and Sam aren't done yet, cliffy remember, so I'm hoping we see them again soon.
