Blog Tour: Leaving Amarillo by Caisey Quinn

Leaving Amarillo (Neon Dreams #1)
Author: Casey Quinn
Release date: March 17, 2015
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance

Dixie Lark hasn’t had it easy. She lost her parents in an accident when she was young and grew up in a ramshackle house on a dirt road in Amarillo with her ailing grandparents and overprotective older brother. Thanks to her grandfather, Dixie learned to play a mean fiddle, inspired by the sounds of the greats—Johnny and June, Waylon, and Hank. Her grandfather’s fiddle changed Dixie’s life forever, giving her an outlet for the turmoil of her broken heart and inspiring a daring dream.
Ten years later, Dixie and her brother Dallas are creating the music they love and chasing fame with their hot band,
. But Dixie isn’t enjoying the ride. All she can think about is Gavin Garrison, the band’s tattooed, tortured drummer who she’s loved since they were kids. She knows he feels the connection between them, but he refuses see her as more than his best friend’s little sister.
Convinced that one night with Gavin will get him out of her system, Dixie devises a plan. She doesn’t know that her brother has forbidden Gavin from making a move on her—a promise he swore he’d always keep—a promise that once broken will unexpectedly change the future for Dixie, Gavin and the band. Will Dixie and Gavin risk it all for a possible love neither has ever thought possible?

Leaving Amarillo is book one in the Neon Dream Series. I’m a huge music lover so this book intrigued me right away.

Leaving Amarillo is a country band made up of three members: Dallas, Gavin and Dixie. Dallas and Dixie are siblings and Gavin is their best friend whom they met after a horrible tragedy rocked their lives. All three of them didn’t have easy childhoods but together they did the best they could. Once they started the band life started to look up for them.

Dallas is Leaving Amarillo's guitar player and lead singer. He’s dead set on moving the band forward to bigger and better things. He wants the band to make a big name for themselves and won’t stop until they've obtained that dream. Gavin is the band's drummer and Dixie is on the fiddle. If you haven’t heard and/or seen a fiddle player you should YouTube Natalie Stovall and the Drive's “Devil Went Down to Georgia”. AMAZING! Natalie's fiddle playing was all I could think about during the first chapter of the book.

While playing at the Austin Music-Fest, Leaving Amarillo hopes to get noticed by agents scoping out new talent. One agent catches Dallas’s eye and he decides to move forward despite Gavin and Dixie being a little hesitant. This brings stress to the band since everything could be changing. Like what happens when your younger sister has a crush on your best friend? You warn him away. And even though Gavin agrees to stay away from Dixie she has a plan of her own. Dixie has been in love with Gavin forever and doesn’t really care what Dallas has to say about it. Not only does this create tension with the friends as a band but the individual relationships that have bonded them over the years.

Leaving Amarillo started out a bit slow for me, it took about 50% before it hooked me. I just didn’t feel a connection with the characters early on as much as I would’ve liked. Dixie drove me crazy, she was hot then cold, a bit immature which made it hard to connect with her; it could have been because she was so young, just nineteen. Once the story picked up it was a rollercoaster ride that I didn’t want to end! The twists and turns send your mind racing to figure out what the heck is going on and what will happen next. There are lots of laughs, steamy scenes, and lots of heart clenching moments. I felt a little bummed that it took me so long to get the hook because once I did it ended and of course the ending had me wanting more immediately! Bring on Loving Dallas
