Placing my elbows at the edge of the countertop, I collapsed on the barstool, feeling exhausted. I had never been on a date where I felt like I needed a vacation only two hours in.
“What can I get ya?” the young guy behind the bar asked.

“A decoy, maybe a smoke bomb.” He looked at me in confusion. “Date from hell, dude. Ever had one of those moments where you’re wondering how the fuck you got yourself in such a mess?”

He chuckled and looked up over my shoulder.

“Oh.” He smirked and nodded. “Marissa.”

The fact he knew her name made me cringe. I had a feeling this was worse than I had initially thought. “Oh fuck, what? She’s a stalker or some freaky chick that’s gonna claim we’re engaged? I’ll spend months getting her to leave me the fuck alone, won’t I?”

He handed me a beer and shook his head, chuckling to himself, then poured a shot of tequila and set it on the bar next to my beer. “You’re gonna need that.”

I let my head fall to my hands and grumbled as I mentally cussed out Greyson and myself for even showing up.

“Good luck, man.”

I didn’t even lift my head. It was pointless; I knew he was eating this up. His laughter faded as he worked his way down the bar, serving others.

“I see you don’t suffer from coulrophobia,” came a soft whisper from my right.

I immediately lifted my head and was taken aback by the girl sitting at my side. How had I missed her?

Oh, I know, I’d had tunnel vision as I ran from Cruella toward my next drink.
“What?” I asked, yet all I could focus on was her piercing blue eyes. I had never seen eyes that blue before.

“The fear of clowns,” she stated. “Coulrophobia.”

I remained focused on her beauty, taking the time to look at each feature, wondering why in the hell she couldn’t have been the brunette from the coffee shop. My night would have been a whole hell of a lot better if she was in Marissa’s place.

I knew I was staring, but I couldn’t stop myself. She had mentioned something about clowns, but I was lost. I had no idea what she was talking about. My gaze fell to her plump, full lips, and I smirked. No red lipstick graced them. They held only a sheer film of shiny gloss, and I loved that she preferred the more natural look. When they curved upward in a smile, I didn’t feel even the slightest bit embarrassed that she knew I was checking her out so closely.

When her eyes met mine, she nudged her head toward Marissa. “I was referring to your date. She kinda resembles a clown.”

I stared at her and could see she was fighting back her laughter. She lifted her drink to her lips and took a small sip before lowering it.

I could no longer hold back my own smile. “I fucking hate clowns.”

Love. I’d hated love for most of my life. I saw how it destroyed the one person I thought I could count on as it sucked him under, leaving him not to care about anything else in the world—including me. But when I didn’t close myself off, I let love consume me. Love and hate, two words that don’t often go together but that’s what I felt for him. Beneath the prince lurked a monster. Lawson Reynolds fell in love with Campbell Wynn the minute he laid eyes on her—even though he was clueless to the fact. Maybe if he had realized it sooner, he wouldn’t have lost her. Campbell Wynn had no interest in becoming another one of Lawson Reynold’s groupies. She thought she found her own happily ever after when she didn’t think they even existed. But the perfectly painted picture soon turned ugly behind closed doors. Will Lawson’s unconditional love be able to save her from the downward cycle that she refuses to break? Or will she reach the point of no return?

Losing Her is mainly set around two characters, Campbell and Lawson. They meet when Campbell is in her last year of high school and Lawson is just getting famous with his band, Jensen Outlaws. Campbell is dragged to one of their concerts and then to a Meet and Greet. They hit if off and become friends right away. This story spans their friendship and deeper feelings through the years.

I enjoyed Lawson and Campbell's relationship. The banter between the two was fun, easy, and very natural. It was soon apparent that Lawson was in it for more than an easy lay, especially since Cammie didn't give in. There were several times that I just wanted to bop both of them in the head to wake up and quit being so stubborn. Lawson was so bent on protecting Cammie, even from himself. Campbell was also trying to protect herself. GAH! They just couldn't see past protecting her. Even when they are adults, they were in their own way to the road of happiness. Lawson gave and gave and gave. Campbell, to me, seems to take and take it for granted that he would always be there ready to pick up the pieces, to protect her, and for anything else she needs, all while trying not to take from him. I know that sounds contradictory, but Campbell is very proud and independent. It is hard for her to accept help, so she tried not to, but sometimes, she just really needed it. She had some tough times from that last year of high school.

My main feeling while reading this book is frustration. I was just so dang frustrated with, mainly, Campbell. There were bits of annoyance in regards, Lawson, but mainly just Campbell. I honestly can't pinpoint what about her rubbed me wrong from the get go, but she did. I respected her decision to not spread her legs as soon as she met Lawson, but I think maybe her attitude. I just don't know. The prologue pulled me right in to the story, but I'll be honest, I had a hard time relating it to the rest of the story. It kept floating in the back of my mind... "What did it have to do with what is going on?" It was always there, nagging at me. I will say that the further I read, the more it started to make sense. I was very curious to see how it played out, though.

There were some twist that I didn't see coming, which, in hindsight, makes total sense. The overall flow of the book and the dialogue is what kept me reading. I could understand some of the decisions that Campbell made, and they made her relatable. As an outsider looking in, you want to fix situations and of course you know the best way, because you're objective. I couldn't help to root for these 2 characters. I just wanted everything to work out in their favor.

Keep in mind that this story is so far from over. A cliffy? Yes. This story kept me reading especially towards the end. I had to know the outcome. I still NEED it! I cannot, Can. Not. Wait for more!

Blog Tour Review: Free to Fly by Morgan Reeves

Title: Free to Fly
Author: Morgan Reeves
Release Date: Nov 3, 2015

Our secrets define us.
I’ve run far to escape my past. Eight years and almost two thousand miles lie between me and the horror that consumes me. My life is a series of superficial relationships and closed doors designed to keep me safe. I will never let myself become the person I was. That girl is dead, and in her place is a woman who guards her inner self fiercely. I’m not going to let anyone breach those hard earned barriers. Not even him.
But when those secrets come home to roost, I have to decide what I’m willing to risk for my happily ever after. When the evil I left behind finds me, I have to choose. Will I succumb to the girl I was and crumble under the pressure? Or can I break the cycle and finally be free to fly?

This is how a debut book is done! Morgan Reeves doesn’t write like a newbie, she writes like a seasoned author with a great story line.

Zoe, our heroine has not had an easy time with life. She’s closed off to everyone. She holds her past in and blocks the world out. But when Logan arrives on the scene, her walls start to crumble. Zoe is a remarkable character. She had been to hell and back and still was a good person and loving to her friends. She was such a real character that she could be sitting next to you in a crowd.

Logan is kind and caring and only wants the best for Zoe. His feeling for her were so genuine that you could feel them through the kindle!

The past comes back to haunt Zoe and boy was it emotional. The writing was phenomenal handling such a hard topic.

I loved this book and hope everyone gets a chance to check out this new author. I’ll be watching for more from her in the future.

I took the envelope, and our fingertips brushed. My breath caught. It was unbelievable that such a small touch could affect me so much, but there I stood, my heart pounding in my chest and a heated flush working its way up my neck. He was standing way too close to me, and I swayed as lust hit me full force.
He caught my hand before I could jerk away and brushed his thumb across my knuckles in a soft gesture that left my skin tingling. Emotions flitted through me so fast I couldn’t make sense of them. An ache started in my chest, and I searched his tender expression, confused. How had we gone from jesting to this?
I was in way over my head with this man.
I closed my eyes as the enormity of the situation hit me. I couldn’t pretend this was all about sex anymore. Not with his affection shining through so clearly.
Just as I was about to tell him to let go, he sucked in a ragged breath and stepped away before clearing his throat.
I opened my eyes and stared at him, bewildered.
“Have a good night, Zoe,” he said and went back to sit at his desk.
I almost asked him what happened, but I decided against it. I’d asked for this, hadn’t I? He was respecting a rule I had put in place.
As desire pulsed through me, I cursed my own stupid rule. I was officially an idiot. I sighed as I fled the office in sexual frustration, not even bothering with a goodbye.
