Blurb

I was destined for stardom.
From the age of seven, I was an all-star.
Parent’s praised me, coaches worshipped me.
As I got older, girls begged for me.
I was Beltline’s baseball God, guaranteed to put this small town on the map.

Then, after one night, that future vanished.

The legend was laid to rest.
I gave up my scholarship.
I fled from Beltline.
I left behind the girl.

Now, I’m back.

Rounding Third by Michelle Lynn is a wonderful story of love, healing, and second chances. This story is written so flawlessly from beginning to end. The author definitely stirred up all of my emotions in this book.
Crosby Lynch was a baseball star and a beloved part of his small town during high school. He and his girlfriend, Ella, had big dreams for the future. They were always going to be together, but then tragedy struck and tore them apart.  Crosby gets his second chance with her when he is transferred to her college on a baseball scholarship. He is determined to get his girl back. Ella, on the other hand, really tries to resist him. When they meet again, she has a boyfriend, but she can't ignore the pull she has to Crosby. Instead of totally giving in, she agrees to be friends. Regardless of their past heartbreak, they have always cared about each other.
There was a point in this story that I got so angry at Ella. I actually had to stop reading this story for a couple of days while I fumed. Once I got over my anger, I pushed through and really enjoyed the rest of the story. Rounding Third was pretty emotional for me. I just wanted Ella and Crosby to fall into a relationship a lot more easily than they did. However, it wouldn't have been much of a story if they had. These characters had it rough and I just wanted one easy thing for them.
This story is much more than just a sports romance. It is a story of healing and forgiveness. My heart absolutely bled for Crosby. I couldn't help but to cheer him on every step of the way. Ella also had a lot more hurt inside then she let on. She was so afraid of getting her heart shattered again. Second chance stories are a weakness of mine, and this story was a great one!

Excerpt

Jogging up the stairs to the second floor, I sneak into the back row of the classroom. I pull out my laptop and quickly catch up with the professor’s lecture. The guy a couple seats down passes a syllabus over, and when I turn to thank him, I’m reminded that nothing comes easy in my life.

“Is there a reason you were holding my girlfriend’s hand?” Ella’s boyfriend whispers, sliding into the open seat between us.

Well…shit.

“She won’t be your girlfriend for long,” my cockiness answers for me. My arrogance is a great intimidator that’s always worked in getting me what I want.

“Who are you?”

As his beady eyes try to daunt me, I get an up close look at him. I can see why El might have fallen for him. He’s a safe bet. Probably riding the coattails of his family’s money, paving his way with his arrogant little bitch frat brothers. It only assures me of one thing. I don’t have to fight him for El. This guy wouldn’t start a fight if I fucked her right in the middle of his bed. El is just a trophy to him. He doesn’t love her like I do.

“I’m just an old friend. We have a long history together.” I glance at him from the corner of my eye, offering him a quick wink.

His knuckles whiten as he clenches his pen. It couldn’t be more satisfying, knowing I’m getting under his skin.

His annoyed expression tells me that Ella hasn’t been so open about her life and her past. This guy doesn’t have a shot.

“She’s taken, so keep your hands to yourself.”

A few heads flip around after his voice heightens.

Not needing a professor to hate me on day one, I lean in closer to whisper in his ear, “I can’t make any promises. It’s nothing personal, believe me, but technically, she’s always been mine.” I ease back against my chair right as the professor’s eyes catch mine.

Liam’s head whips around, and I wait for him to ask me to take our discussion outside. But he cowers, like I knew he would.

“Try to steal her away from me, and see what happens,” he says.

“I’m not going to have to try hard. Your time with her was over the moment she saw me.”

The professor forcefully clears her throat, eyeing us. If we don’t end this conversation soon, we’ll both be kicked out.

“Don’t be so cocky, asshole. The fact that I don’t know anything about you, and the fact that she’s never mentioned your name, show what she really thinks of you.”

“You two”—the professor points, and a hundred pairs of eyes turn in our direction—“since you’re so chatty, maybe you should be conducting the lecture this morning?” She crosses her arms over her purple blouse and waits for our answer.

“Sorry, Professor Knight,” Douche Bag says.

“Sorry,” I say.

She nods and starts the lecture back up again, her eyes continuing to linger on us.

He slides over to his original seat.

I strike my earlier thought. I have no idea what El sees in this weak shithead.

I lean over the now vacant chair, testing my luck one final time. “Don’t worry. I’ll be around. We can continue this conversation soon.”

He scoffs me off, shaking his head. His fingers start tapping on the keys of his laptop as he accepts his defeat for this round.

Blog Tour: The Sound of Serendipity by Cynthia A. Rodriguez

Title: The Sound of Serendipity

So many things can happen to a person on a Central Park bench.
For Emerson Kingsley, falling in love happened, despite her broken monster of a heart.
Emerson knows more about listening than she does about love, whether it’s listening to artists as a music producer or listening to stories as she people watches.

Months of watching Maddox Bailey from a park bench are to blame for her infatuation. In her mind, the moment they meet will be spectacular if she ever finds the nerve to speak to him.

But when the two share an awkward cab ride, she realizes that maybe fantasies are meant to stay that way.

The only problem is, now that they’ve met, he keeps popping up in her life. Each time he does, Emerson finds the real-life Maddox to be better than anything she could’ve dreamed—sexy, passionate, and sweeter than his chocolate brown eyes.

A woman in love with possibilities meets a man determined to make them happen.

The Sound of Serendipity is a great book for a lazy, rainy day. It’s the kind of romance that you want to be able to sit and devour in one sitting. The author pulled me in from the very beginning and I could not quit until I had finished the book.

Emerson guards her heart after a relationship that ended badly. She is set to take over her father’s company, but doesn’t really want it. What she wants is to be a music producer in the company, not to run it. She watches the world go by in Central Park; it is there that she finds peace and can relax. It is where she gets her first glimpse of Maddox and becomes infatuated. Little does she know he is going to turn her boring, predictable, safe life upside-down.

I absolutely loved Maddox. He is perfect for Emerson. He pushes when she needs it and it so patient with her. He is the typical not into relationships guy, but of course, she is enough to make him change his ways. And why not? She is a great character!

The author did a wonderful job at bringing the characters to life. Their emotions jumped off the page and I couldn’t help but to absorb them. This is my first book by Cynthia Rodriguez, but it definitely won’t be my last.

Cynthia A. Rodriguez hates writing her own bio. In her down-time, you can find her watching movies, ranging anywhere from classic movies to action flicks (she has a weakness for Marvel adaptations), and reading steamy novels. One decision.

And those he meant to protect will be the ones who suffer the most…

I have some mixed feelings about this story. I mostly like it and found it really enjoyable, exciting even, but there was one thing that rubbed me the wrong way. I'll get to that later. Lies (Phoenix Undercover #1) is the first book in the series and it is not a series of standalones. I don't know how many books that the author has planned, but there will definitely be a book 2, as there is not conclusion to the characters' story.

This story is centered around Josh and Gabby. Josh is an undercover FBI agent. He meets Gabby at a bar while trying to hide from a disastrous double date. After they meet and start getting to know each other, Josh is called to duty. The couple decide to try to make it work, even though there will be hardships due to his undercover status. I enjoyed Gabby and Josh together. The dialogue between them flowed really well. They are a well rounded, fun couple. Gabby is very relatable. She's just a normal girl trying to navigate through life and a new relationship. Josh was great: sweet, attentive, hot. He was the complete package.

This book is packed with enough action to give the reader an idea of what Josh goes through while undercover and on duty. On the flip side, we see how life is for Gabby while waiting to hear from Josh while he is under. There are times when he is suddenly gone for weeks at a time and unable to get word to Gabby. This is where I got annoyed with Gabby. Not just once, but, I thought, several times her reaction to him being gone were irrational. She knew the score when they decided to pursue the relationship, so she just plain annoyed me.

Even though I didn't agree with some of her reactions, this was a really great story. The pace of the story was steady, so I didn't lose interest at any point. I call the end of this book a semi-cliffy. Josh and Gabby's story is far from over, but it ends in a way that it isn't totally tragic and leaving you on the edge of your seat. The author just simply paved the way for book 2.

“I like the red ones,” Josh said before turning back toward the display of lingerie. “Oh, and this color. Is that teal?” He lifted up the pair of panties and held them out before him.
I smiled as a younger guy three feet away ducked his head in embarrassment.
“Now these would look fucking amazing on you. Damn, baby.” Josh’s eyes gleamed in excitement as he looked up at me. “I may go broke if you keep bringing me to places like these.”
I giggled as I grabbed the pink, lacy, and completely see-through nightie he held in his other hand.
“We’ll take one of these in every color you have,” he hollered to the clerk.
I hid my head against his chest and tickled his sides.
“What?” he grunted and tried to pull back from my assault. “You can’t blame me for trying, sweetheart.
Forget about getting dressed daily. I think you should live in these nighties.”
I tilted my head and looked up at him. “You are insatiable.” I rose up on my tiptoes, bringing my lips close to his. “And extremely adorable.”
He closed the distance and kissed me, wrapping his arm around my waist securely. His tongue rolled with mine, and for a moment I forgot we were standing in the center of a department store. Someone cleared their throat, and I broke the kiss to look over my shoulder. An older salesperson was giving us a disapproving glare.
“Sorry,” I offered. When I turned back to face Josh, he was grinning from ear to ear.
“So—” He waggled his eyebrows suggestively. “—we are getting some of these. Right?”
I lifted up the light pink nightie and shook it in front of his face. “We’ll get this one and the red one,” I assured him as I walked toward the sales clerk at the checkout counter. When I looked back over my shoulder, Josh was smiling brightly and following close behind.
“Now that’s my girl. Looks like tonight we’re staying in.”
I rolled my eyes and turned forward again as he chuckled.
