Cuffed by K. Bromberg

CUFFED Blurb
By: K. Bromberg
Release Day – Oct 23
Standalone

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past. But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.

What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

***

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

"Head up. Wings out!" That's going to be my new mantra. K. Bromberg really delivered with this book. It was beautifully written. Cuffed is full of emotion with the perfect balance of humor. This is a second chance romance that will pull at your heart strings but also put a smile on your face.

Emerson Reeves has returned to the town she never thought she'd see again. Long ago she left with no plans to return. She'd been hurt in more ways than one and those memories were something she never wanted to remember.

Grant Malone is not the same boy he was when Emmy Reeves left. He's all man now. A hot man at that.  After running into the one person he thought he'd lost forever, he wants nothing more than to right the wrong that happened twenty years ago. He'll stop at nothing to make that happen.

I loved both Emmy and Grant. Emmy has the personality of a fire cracker who has been hurt too many times to even think of settling down or getting close to a man. Grant is the playboy that wants to be tamed. The banter and build up between these two was a slow burn that Bromberg executed to perfection. Did I mention Grant was a cop? No? Well he is and man oh man is he one hell of a hot cop. I love a man in uniform. Especially a man like Grant Malone.

While there are things in this book that will fill you with many emotions, there are many scenes that are down right hilarious. Let's just say I will never be able to pass by CVS without cracking up. That scene was hilarious. Absolutely hilarious.

I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Noni slowly came awake with a heater at her back.  The smell of male and forest filled her senses.
Denver.
She stilled and listened to his even breathing.  He was asleep.  Good.  She took a moment to feel his presence in bed again.  Some of the happiest times in her entire life had been with him in bed.  Man, she’d fallen for him fast and hard.  They’d only dated for about three months, but she could remember each and every detail as if it were yesterday.  The feeling of him in bed was right.
Yet it wasn’t.  It couldn’t be.  For months after he’d left, she hadn’t slept in her bed.  She’d watched television until falling asleep on the sofa in her living room.
She couldn’t do this.  Be with him like this.  Everything feminine in her wanted to turn around and snuggle into his arms.  But he’d be gone soon, and she knew it.  Why torture herself?  The room was still dark, so dawn had yet to arrive.  She slid from the bed as quietly as she could, turned and backtracked to the doorway.
He slept on his back on top of the covers, his huge body taking up most of the bed.  His movements were nil, but his breathing even.  How tired had he been?  A lock of his black hair had fallen on his forehead, and her fingers itched to push it away.  To caress down his hard jaw and muscled neck to that wide chest.  She’d once spent an entire morning kissing that chest.
Man, she missed him.  Even now, with him near and her so pissed, she missed those moments.  When he was hers to touch.
Enough wallowing.  That was beneath her, and she was stronger than this.  There was no choice.  She swallowed and gathered her courage, sliding out of the room and quietly shutting the door.  After a quick trip to the one bathroom, she tiptoed into the living room and surveyed the computers.  The materials from her backpack were spread over a table, while other manila files and yellow notepads were scattered around.
Forgoing hers for his, she flipped through them.  A small, very small, part of her felt guilty to be going through Denver’s things.  The other part, the one he’d abandoned alone in a bed in Alaska, didn’t give a hoot.  The man would never level with her, so she’d be the detective in this case.
The file held a bunch of notes and pictures of red-headed women.  Something about a Copper Killer serial case filled one.  She pushed it aside and opened another file labeled as “Dr. Madison.”
“See anything that interests you?”  Denver asked from hallway entry.
Noni jumped, her lungs compressing.  “I’m just getting started.”  She would not feel bad.  “I read about the Copper Killer case in the newspaper.  He was a serial killer who focused on redheads. They caught the guy here in Snowville, right?”
We caught the guy,” Denver said, not moving.  He leaned against the door frame, his hair mussed up, whiskers covering his square jaw.  His ragged T-shirt was wrinkled, and his jeans ripped, and nothing in the world had ever looked so delicious.  Sexy, tousled, and dangerous.
Noni cleared her throat.  A pulse set up between her legs.  So that’s why he had been in town.  “That wasn’t in the news.”
“It wouldn’t be.”  He pushed away from the door frame toward her, holding out his hand.  “My records.”
She clutched them to her chest.  “I’m not done snooping.”
“Yes, you are.”  He grasped the manila folders with two fingers and pulled.
She could fight him, but in a tug of war, she’d probably lose.  Or at least get a paper cut, and those sucked.  “Who is Dr. Madison?”
At the question, his lazy indulgence disappeared.  A flash of heat hit his eyes, and for the moment, he looked every bit as deadly as he’d warned her that he could be.  Barely leashed violence poured off him in a heat she could actually feel.  “Nobody,” he said, his voice guttural.
Noni gaped at him.  At the change in him—in a second.  “Right.  I, ah, I can see that.”
Then the gates shuttered closed.  A veil fell over his expressive eyes, effectively shutting her out.
She exhaled.  “I’d forgotten that look.”  When they’d dated, every time she’d asked about his life, about his childhood, he’d shut her out.  And she’d let him.  Oh, she’d sensed the pain in his past, and she’d just accepted him, knowing someday he’d open up to her.  Someday he’d feel free enough, safe enough, to confide in her.  “I was such a fucking idiot,” she muttered, letting the truth finally in.  Even when they’d been together, he hadn’t let her know him.
“No, you’re not,” he said gently.  “I’m good at playing a part.  Really good.”
Fire lashed her.  She jumped up, sending the chair flying back.  He had fooled her, and he had done a good job with it.  But there had been moments…real moments.  She had to trust herself and what she felt.  Could she shake him?  Get him to admit it was more than just a part?  “Oh, baby.  You’re not that good.”
“No?” he asked silkily.
“No.”  She levered up right into his face, finally trusting her instincts.  “I may not know the details of your life, of your big secrets, but I know you a little bit, asshole.”  She slapped a hand on his chest.  Hard.  “Whether you like it or not, you revealed some of your true self.” While she didn’t know the facts, she knew his heart.  Whether he liked it or not.  Since he’d shown up in her motel room, she hadn’t had time to really think.  No way would he hurt her.  While he was dangerous, she was safe.  “Suck on that.”
“Maybe,” he said, pressing his hand over hers.  “It doesn’t change anything.  We’re gonna find this baby and get you safe.  Then I have another job to do.”
“Jobs,” she sputtered as his heart beat so steadily against her palm.  “Tons of jobs, right?”
“No.  Just one.”  His hand completely covered hers, and she couldn’t move it.  The way he said the words gave her pause.  Such finality in each syllable.
Her gaze dropped to the files in his other hand.  “Dr. Madison?”
He slowly nodded.
“You’re trying to find her?”  That’s what he did, right?  He found people or things.  His detective agency found the lost.  That’s what he’d always said.
“Yes.”
She swallowed.  “Then what?”  Instinct chilled down her back, but she didn’t know why.  Tension choked around them.  “What happens to Dr. Madison?”
“I’m going to kill her.”  With that, Denver released Noni’s hand and moved around her to the computers.  “Now.  Let’s find that baby.”

Ruthless King by Meghan March

Get ready for the darker and dirtier side of New Orleans with a brand new alpha romance from USA Today bestselling author Meghan March. New Orleans belongs to me. You don’t know my name, but I control everything you see—and all the things you don’t. My reach knows no bounds, and my demands are always met. I didn’t need to loan money to a failing family distillery, but it amuses me to have them in my debt. To have her in my debt. She doesn’t know she caught my attention. She should’ve been more careful. I’m going to own her. Consume her. Maybe even keep her. It’s time to collect what I’m owed. Keira Kilgore, you’re now the property of Lachlan Mount.

Holy book hangover, Batman. I can't stop thinking about this book. Ruthless King is my first book by Meghan March but I guarantee it will not be my last. First of all, I HAVE to finish this series. While I wait for that, I will be picking up every other book she has written. Her writing is flawless and it flows so well. You will be instantly hooked from the very first page and she won't let you go until the very last page.

Ruthless King is the story of Kiera Kilgore and Lachlan Mount. Kiera is a very strong willed female lead. I enjoyed that she was no nonsense that at times was at war with herself over it.  Kiera has taken over her families distillery and is determined to keep it afloat.

Lachlan Mount is the epitome of an Alpha Male. "I'm going to fuck you like you've been begging a man to fuck you your entire life. And I guarantee while I'm buried inside you, there won't be a single second when you feel like it's against your will." Meghan March does a great job of making you want to hate him but love him at the same time. She completely screws with your emotions. Your heart will want to love him but your head will tell you you hate him. It's writing at it's best. The emotions I felt while reading this book were off the charts.

Ruthless King is book one in the Mount Trilogy. It's full of twists, turns and scorching hot sex scenes. You won't want to put it down.  I can't wait for the next book in this series.

My first journey into the world of Meghan March and I have to say I'm left very satisfied. The first in this new trilogy, Ruthless King will keep you thoroughly engaged from beginning to end. Lachlan Mount is a dirty talking mysterious alpha who holds a great deal of power in his community. Keira Kilgore is a smart, fiery, legacy whiskey maker trying to save her family's distillery business. Together they push each other's limits while heating up the pages. With a few twists and turns along the way, and a surprising ending, you are not going to want to miss out on Ruthless King or the next book in Lachlan and Keira's story.

Duke of Desire by Elizabeth Hoyt

A LADY OF LIGHT

Refined, kind, and intelligent, Lady Iris Jordan finds herself the unlikely target of a diabolical kidnapping. Her captors are the notoriously evil Lords of Chaos. When one of the masked-and nude!-Lords spirits her away to his carriage, she shoots him . . . only to find she may have been a trifle hasty.

A DUKE IN DEEPEST DARKNESS

Cynical, scarred, and brooding, Raphael de Chartres, the Duke of Dyemore, has made it his personal mission to infiltrate the Lords of Chaos and destroy them. Rescuing Lady Jordan was never in his plans. But now with the Lords out to kill them both, he has but one choice: marry the lady in order to keep her safe.

CAUGHT IN A WEB OF DANGER . . . AND DESIRE

Much to Raphael's irritation, Iris insists on being the sort of duchess who involves herself in his life-and bed. Soon he's drawn both to her quick wit and her fiery passion. But when Iris discovers that Raphael's past may be even more dangerous than the present, she falters. Is their love strong enough to withstand not only the Lords of Chaos but also Raphael's own demons?

Desperately she flung herself at the opposite seat and tugged it up. Thrust her hand in.
A pistol.
She cocked it, desperately praying that it was loaded.
She turned and aimed it at the door to the carriage just as the door swung open.
The Wolf loomed in the doorway—still nude—a lantern in one hand. She saw the eyes behind the mask flick to the pistol she held between her bound hands. He turned his head and said something in an incomprehensible language to someone outside.
Iris felt her breath sawing in and out of her chest.
He climbed into the carriage and closed the door, completely ignoring her and the pistol pointed at him. The Wolf hung the lantern on a hook and sat on the seat across from her.
Finally he glanced at her. “Put that down.”
His voice was calm. Quiet.
With just a hint of menace.
She backed into the opposite corner, as far away from him as possible, holding the pistol up. Level with his chest. Her heart was pounding so hard it nearly deafened her. “No.”
The carriage jolted into motion, making her stumble before she caught herself.
“T-tell them to stop the carriage,” she said, stuttering with terror despite her resolve. “Let me go now.”
“So that they can rape you to death out there?” He tilted his head to indicate the Lords. “No.”
“At the next village, then.”
“I think not.”
He reached for her and she knew she had no choice.
She shot him.
The blast blew him into the seat and threw her hands up and back, the pistol narrowly missing her nose.
Iris scrambled to her feet. The bullet was gone, but she could still use the pistol as a bludgeon.
The Wolf was sprawled across the seat, blood streaming from a gaping hole in his right shoulder. His mask had been knocked askew on his face.
She reached forward and snatched it off.
And then gasped.
The face that was revealed had once been as beautiful as an angel’s but was now horribly mutilated. A livid red scar ran from just below his hairline on the right side of his face, bisecting the eyebrow, somehow missing the eye itself but gouging a furrow into the lean cheek and catching the edge of his upper lip, making it twist. The scar ended in a missing divot of flesh in the line of the man’s severe jaw. He had inky black hair and, though they were closed now, Iris knew he had emotionless crystal-gray eyes.
She knew because she recognized him.
He was Raphael de Chartres, the Duke of Dyemore, and when she’d danced with him—once—three months ago at a ball, she’d thought he’d looked like Hades.
God of the underworld.
God of the dead.
She had no reason to change her opinion now.
Then he gasped, those frozen crystal eyes opened, and he glared at her. “You idiot woman. I’m trying to save you.”

Duke of Desire rivaled my favorite in the Maiden Lane series, Wicked Intentions (Book 1). Reading 'Desire' was bittersweet as it is the final full length Maiden Lane book. This is one of my absolute favorite historical romance series. Without fail I get completely lost to Hoyt's storytelling. 'Desire' and a few of the last books in the series added a darker and even more dangerous element, The Lords of Chaos. I loved this new element to the series. It added another level of mystery and intrigue to the series that kept you engrossed page after page. The Duke of Dyemore, Raphael de Chartres, is probably one of my favorite Heroes. A love a character that is consistent throughout a story but who also grows. And with the help of Lady Iris Jordan, that is exactly what Raphael does. He's dark and dangerous, he's brooding, he's seen hell and seeks retribution. Iris is wonderfully complimentary to his darkness. Smart, beautiful and compassionate, she makes a bad situation turn around, embracing it and growing herself, to save not only herself but the soul of the man she falls for in Raphael. I'm sad this series will be ending but I hope that many more reader's discovery and fall in love with it the way that I have. If you have never read historical romance before, this would be a fantastic place to begin.

Elizabeth Hoyt is the New York Times bestselling author of over seventeen lush historical romances including the Maiden Lane series. Publishers Weekly has called her writing "mesmerizing." She also pens deliciously fun contemporary romances under the name Julia Harper. Elizabeth lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with three untrained dogs, a garden in constant need of weeding, and the long-suffering Mr. Hoyt.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

*I received an ARC for a honest review via the publisher and Netgalley*

I read Can't Walk Away in one day. This was such a great read. I have to admit it was refreshing that it was adult characters with adult problems playing out in really relatable ways. It was different level and type of angst. Being a fan of country music I really enjoyed the music and atmosphere the author created, it made you feel the connection forming and deepening between Brad and Savannah more intensely. Both Brad and Savannah had things happen in their past that have made them hesitate with being a part of, or how they are a part of, the country music industry. But as Savannah's undisputed talent comes to light it throws both into a whirlwind of events and circumstances that seem almost unavoidable. From the main characters, Brad and Savannah, to the secondary characters gearing up for their own books, this had it all...including all the feels. I tend to be hesitant with new to me authors but I'm so glad that I was offered a copy of Can't Walk Away and didn't shy away from diving right in, I encourage other readers to do the same. You won't regret it.
By the fifth take, Brad was losing his patience.
Had he been wrong in thinking Savannah was something special, something new? He sure as hell didn’t think so.
Then why couldn’t he get her to sing with the passion she’d shown back at Words & Music?
Maybe it was the song. “That Smile” was his first attempt at writing in a long time. Perhaps it wasn’t up to snuff?
No. When Brad had heard Savannah sing it earlier, he’d known he’d written a strong song with a good melody and a catchy beat.
Something was clearly blocking her talent.
“I’m sorry, Brad.” She dropped the headphones from her ears to let them rest around her neck. Then, head bowed, she started shuffling through the sheet music.
He’d never seen her look defeated before, and he didn’t like it. This wasn’t the Savannah who’d been his muse. This wasn’t the woman who brought back his music.
This was…a disaster.
But why?
He watched her closely, trying to find some telltale clue as to what was going on today that had robbed Savannah of the passion and talent he’d counted on. Her hair was braided, the braid an eclectic mixture of blond and blue. A blush tinted her cheeks, and he could hear her nervousness through the quaver in her voice, especially in the last notes of her fifth recording.
Something was definitely wrong, and he was going to have to find a way to fix it. But he couldn’t do that from another room. Even though he could see her, something told him she needed something more personal. Unsure of whether being closer to her would make a difference, he figured it was worth a shot.
Brad started a new recording so he could capture the song if he was able to help her, pushed himself away from the console, and headed to the recording booth with his remote control in his pocket. He pulled the door open and stepped inside.
Savannah glanced up from the music, offering him a wan smile that made his frustration evaporate. She knew something was wrong, too. Maybe if they put their heads together, they could get back the magic.
After pulling a stool beside hers, he sat. Then he gently took off her headphones, plucked the pages from her hands, and placed them back on the music stand. She let her eyes meet his, and he could see her concern.
“We’re going do things a little differently this time,” Brad said, keeping his voice low.
“We are?”
He nodded and scooted closer. Then he wrapped his hand around one of hers. “You’re not going to think about recording.”
“I’m not?”
“Nope. This time you’re just going to sing to me. That’s all.”
Her whole body relaxed, and Brad had to fight the desire to smile.
“Sing to me, Savannah. Just to me. Okay?”
She nodded, and before she could get a chance to think about what he was doing, he pulled a remote from his pocket and began the music playback so that it echoed through the room.
The notes of the intro flowed around them, and he kept her grounded by not allowing her to glance away. When she opened her mouth to sing, he gave her hand a reassuring squeeze and offered her an encouraging smile.
And sing she did. Each delightful note came from deep inside her, and he found himself caught in some kind of spell, the same type she’d woven around him back at Words & Music. He hung on each rise and fall of that delicious voice until the last note echoed through the booth.
The song might have ended, but not the magic. Brad found himself leaning closer, his eyes fixed on her soft, pink mouth. Desire ripped through him as she mimicked his action, drawing ever so slowly closer until he could feel the sweet heat of her breath against his face.
With a groan of surrender, he captured her mouth with his own, giving her no warning as his tongue swept deep inside.
Savannah nearly knocked over her stool when she rose to thread her arms around his neck. She was such a little bit of a thing that he could stay seated and draw her between his outstretched legs without interrupting the kiss. As she moved closer, Brad wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her hard against him.
The kiss turned ravenous, and he realized that he was done fighting this attraction.
