He appreciated every inch of her, including that big brain that she didn’t hesitate to use to best him whenever possible. That was some pretty sexy shit right there.
“Are you not a meat eater? Because that’s something I should know up front.” The kind of thing Wren should put in her file. Damon didn’t think that was too much to ask.
As predicted she frowned at him. Shot him one of those you’re-wasting-time looks that she’d been using on him nonstop since they met. “Are you serious right now?”
“Because I eat a lot of burgers and if that’s going to offend you, I can eat something else. I won’t like it, but I will.” Her fidgeting must be rubbing off on him because he picked up his fork then set it down again.
She leaned across the table. “How many burgers?”
Now this was a topic he could handle. Especially since she asked the question in a soft voice, as if they were sharing a secret. “Every day.”
She sat back hard in her seat again. “You do not eat a hamburger every day.”
He ignored the horror in her voice. “True. Some days I mix it up and order a cheeseburger. If I’m feeling particularly frisky I’ll have a steak sandwich.”
“That seems like an invitation to heart disease.” And she was back to shifting around. She crossed and uncrossed her arms before she grabbed for her napkin again.
He could not stop watching her. Energy buzzed off her. He found the mix of tough talk and nervous fidgeting unexpectedly hot. “You’d think, but no.”
“I’m going to pretend you’re kidding.”
“I’m not.”
She cleared her throat. “Shauna.”
They could circle back to food because she had his attention now. He refused to joke about this topic. “Your sister.”
“She’s three years older.”
He noticed she didn’t use the past tense. Shauna died ten years ago and Cate still saw her as an “is.” For Damon, that meant treading carefully. “And you are . . . ?”
“Twenty-nine.”
He knew that answer before she said but thought keeping her to facts might help her emotionally wade through the next part. He’d helped Wren with other cases and this piece—dealing with the grief—never got easier. Damon had a load of grief and guilt of his own piled on top of hers, so he got it.
He nodded to her. “Go ahead.”
“The questions you ask don’t seem that pertinent.”
“I’m going to be honest with you.” He started to lean forward when the waiter came by and dropped off their food. The smell of grilled hamburger filled his senses as he reached for his folded napkin and threw it across his lap.
She didn’t move. “That would be a good way to start.”
“Wren already gave me a file he had on you. The man is an expert at collecting information and then making Garrett put it together in a nice big, easy-to-understand breakdown of what happened and when.”
For a few seconds she sat there, quiet, as her gaze moved over his face, studying him. “Then why are we here doing the get-to-know-you thing?”
He popped a french fry in his mouth. “I’m hungry. That happens a lot. The need-to-eat thing. So, you’ll need to get used to it.”

NEW RELEASE & TOUR: Cry Baby by Ginger Scott

A Contemporary Young Adult Romance

Tristan Lopez is loyal to his brothers. He doesn’t really have a choice, born into a gang that has a chokehold on every kid that roams its streets. He gave his life to them willingly, knowing if he did then one day this kingdom, led by boys drunk with power and ruled by fear, would all be his.

He was loyal through it all. Loyal when prison took his dad away. Loyal when his face was touched by the cold metal of the rival gang’s gun. Loyal even though his mom begged him to run the moment she returned home from rehab.

He thought about becoming someone else. It was hard not to crave the life of a regular 17-year-old. It’s the only reason he stayed in school—to pretend. But he always fell back in line.

Loyal.

Riley Rojas didn’t belong in Tristan’s real world. She should have only been part of the fantasy, one of the many faces he got to pretend with amidst rows of metal chairs and desks and whiteboards with assignments. But there she was, moving boxes from the back of an old pick-up into a house Tristan had shot up on a dare with his friends only a few months before.

Tall enough to look him in the eyes and strong enough to fill his shadow, Riley took up space on his streets, her loud mouth fearless in the face of the gang leaders who terrified everyone else. She pushed Tristan around on the hard court, and she balled better than his friends—better than him sometimes. She challenged him. She needed him. He liked it. And when her pale blue eyes stared into his, he quit wanting to pretend.

He couldn’t ask her to leave because she’d only dig her heels in deeper. He couldn’t ask because he didn’t want her to go. She was blurring his lines. She was testing his loyalty.

He was falling in love.

And it was going to tear him apart.

First time Ginger Scott reader here and wow, Cry Baby was amazing. One of those heart-wrecking books that pull you in and take you on an emotional ride. Tristan made me fall so hard. There was a hundred different times I just wanted to hug him. A raw, powerful and tragic love story, you won't want to put Cry Baby down until the final page.

I love a good sports romance. I also love an enemies to lovers story. Put these together and you've got me hooked. Shameless King is my first book from Maya Hughes and I really liked it. If you haven't read the prequel, Kings of Rittenhouse, I recommend it. It really gives you an understanding of the dynamic of the main characters in this budding series.

Declan and Makenna know how to push each other's buttons. They went to high school together and they did NOT get along. Makenna (Mak) is focused. She has a life plan and she is not willing to let anyone or anything get in the way of those plans. Declan is a hockey star. He seems to have life so easy, people falling at his feet, and everything just seems to work out for him. To Mak, he doesn't take anything seriously and he just floats through life. To Declan, she is way too serious and an ice queen. Of course, under all their annoyance and anger, the two are (unwillingly) attracted to each other - not that they would ever admit it out loud.

Fast forward to college...
Declan and Mak haven't seen each other in years. They are just an annoying memory. However, when Mak decides to go to school closer to her parents, their paths cross yet again. They fall back into their old pattern of dislike. They are forced to work together when they become partners in a class that they both have to pass in order to reach their dreams.

I really liked the dynamic between Mak and Declan. At first, their digs at each other were pretty entertaining. The snark that came from both of them had me laughing at times. When their relationship and attitudes began to change, their snarky banter turned playful and flirty. Add in the steamy, sexual tension, and I couldn't wait for the pair to finally give in. I really enjoyed how these two evolved throughout the story. I did find Mak to be pretty high strung, but she had good reason. This poor character - she was her own worst enemy. I absolutely loved Declan. He brought life to Makenna, and in return, she brought a balance to him that he didn't know he was missing.

This book was centered around Declan and Makenna, but there were so many more characters that I came to care about. The author not only created two strong leads, but the supporting characters really stood out in their own right. I feel invested in these other characters and I can't wait to see what the author has in store for them.

Irish whiskey royalty has no place in Northern California, but that isn't going to stop Iain Brennan, the black sheep of Brennan Family Distillers, from giving it a shot. Wine Country is an unlikely place to launch a whiskey empire, but Iain’s just reckless enough to make it work. And being out from under the watchful eye of his disapproving father back home in Dublin? Even better.

Naomi Klein has spent the last ten years ignoring her society family as much as possible while building a career as a renowned sculptor. She’s found a home in River Hill, but has no interest in dipping her toes into the commitment pool. Just the idea of forever gives her hives. Which makes a rootless Irish wanderer the perfect fling. And shocking her mother? Just a bonus.

But as cozy autumn nights turn into lazy winter mornings, Naomi and Iain realize that they’re getting close to something neither of them wants: love. When Naomi discovers Iain’s not quite as rootless as he seems, she’ll have to make some tough decisions. And when the Brennans and the Kleins descend en masse to collect their prodigal children, River Hill may never be the same.

Though I didn't love The Distiller's Darling as much as The Vintner's Vixen, I did really enjoy it. Naomi first appeared in 'Vintner's' and was a really likable character. It was nice getting to know her better and in turn get to spend more time with Noah and Angelica from 'Vintner's'. There were times Naomi rubbed me the wrong way a bit. Her commitment phobia could be a little exhausting when all you want is for her and Iain to wind up together. LOL On the other hand it made for a fun read.

Right from the start you knew Naomi and Iain were a great match. They wanted the same things when it came to relationships, they both had families that though loved them didn't understand or really support them, and both were very focused on the dreams they were working hard to make a reality (Naomi's art and Iain's whiskey distilling). They are both two strong, intelligent and driven individuals, it was impossible to not love them separately and together.

With two months to bang each other out of their systems neither predicted where things could go. Both hanging on to the agreement that they were all benefits, emotions and feelings started to rear up, changing their perceived notions about relationships and commitment.

The Distiller's Darling was definitely a fun, sweet, charming and sexy read. I don't normally like co-authored book and typically try to stay away from them but Rebecca and Jamaila did a great job in 'Vintner's' and 'Distiller's' and I can't wait for the next book in the River Hill series.

“Thank you for doing this,” Iain said, the pad of his index finger tracing over the design Naomi had created for Whitman’s Revival. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d hear from you again. You kind of ghosted me.”

He glanced up in time to catch her looking away guiltily. “Yeah, about that—”

“I’m not asking you to explain yourself. I get it. We had some fun, and now it’s time to move on.”

Naomi’s eyes came back around, the guilt replaced with what Iain thought looked a whole lot like contemplation. “Funny you should mention that.”

“Funny how?”

“I was thinking,” she said, her finger swirling a pattern on the table that separated them. “You’re leaving in two months, and it would be a shame if we didn’t spend that time ... hanging out.” Her eyes bored into his, as if daring him to misunderstand.

His lips quirked up into a smirk. “Why, Miss Klein, are you asking me to fuck you senseless until I board a plane back to Ireland?”

She tossed him a wicked smile full of promise. “You have to admit; we’re pretty damn good at it.”

“The best,” he agreed.

He felt his chest sawing in and out as his breathing became deeper and more labored. Iain couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt such heady anticipation. Oh, wait, yes, he could. It was that night in San Francisco when he and Naomi had practically run from that dive bar to his hotel. He’d been so ready for her that he’d ripped her dress off before the door to his room had locked behind them.

“So, what do you say, Brennan? You want to spend the next sixty days seeing how many orgasms we can give each other?”

That was all the invitation Iain needed. Abruptly, he stood, his chair scraping over the black-and-white-checked linoleum and then crashing to the floor. He

stalked around the fifties-style diner table and fisted his hands in Naomi’s hair. He bent at the waist and let his lips hover scant centimeters from her parted ones. He could feel the warmth of her breath mingling with his own. “What do you say we get started on that now?”

She licked her lips. “Yes, let’s.”

With movie roles for "curvy best friend" drying up fast, actress Angelica Travis is happy to be leaving Hollywood behind for a project she's truly passionate about: renovating an historic bed and breakfast in peaceful wine country. She's got plans and power tools ready, but an inconvenient attraction to her obnoxious new neighbor is NOT on the agenda.

Winemaker Noah Bradstone wants nothing more than to cultivate his grapes and win awards for his wine. But when construction on the B&B next door threatens his vines, Noah goes on a rampage - and comes up hard against the sexiest starlet he's ever seen. Exactly the sort of woman he's vowed never to get involved with again.

Angelica and Noah might be able to resolve their differences over a glass of some very fine wine, but when her opportunity at breakout stardom comes calling, all bets are off.

It has been a long time since I have read an Emma Chase book and I am starting to wonder why that is  I am a sucker for anything that has a MC that is a football player.  I love them and will put them at the front of my TBR list at any moment.  I was so excited to read this and I will admit that it didn't disappoint.
You are going to LOVE both Garrett and Callie.  They are fun characters that just make you just want to read and not put the books down.  Add in very eccentric parents and some fun loving friends and you have an awesome read.
Callie has to come home to help her parents out, but she needs to get a job because she still has to pay her rent on her apartment in San Diego.  Lucky for her, the theater teacher is popping out a baby and wants the year off.  What Callie doesn't expect is that she is going to start having feelings for the students and generally wants to help them out.  It doesn't hurt that her extra sexy ex is the head football coach and still holds all other girls up to Callie.
This is a standalone book, so you can just pick it up and read.  You don't have to start the series and play catch up/  It is the perfect summer read to pick up and bring to the beach or read in the pick up line at camp.

High school parking lots are one of the most dangerous places on earth. I don’t have statistics to back that up…but I know it’s true.

I pull into the school parking lot Monday morning in my Dad’s giant, newly repaired mint-green Buick, with Back in Black by AC/DC blasting from the speakers. I feel tough, powerful—like I’m driving a tank.

I’m a badass teacher—I’ll run you down even if you’re a student—I’ve got twenty-nine more in class just like you.

The outfit helps too—leather boots, blue jeans, a starched white blouse and a black leather jacket. It’s my armor. The morning air is cool and crisp today, but I barely feel it. I’m locked and loaded and ready to roll.

As I march towards the main entrance, I spot Garrett and Dean and Alison Bellinger outside the doors. They pause when they see me, waiting.

“Damn,” Dean chuckles. “Callie’s got her shit-kickers on. Did you dig them out of a mosh pit from 1993?”

Garrett crosses his arms. “Somebody’s channeling Michelle Pfiefer in Dangerous Minds.”

He looks fantastic. His hair is tousled from the breeze and kisses his brow, and he’s wearing a dark blue sweater that’s snug around his biceps and soft, worn, light blue jeans. I remember his arms around me yesterday on my parent’s porch. The wonder and exhilaration of the moment.

Of him.

The intensity in his eyes, the desire and possessiveness in the grasp of his hands. The scorching feel of his mouth, his wet talented tongue that made my stomach swirl and my head spin.

So much for not complicating things.

But I’m not going to play head games with myself or Garrett—we’re too old for that shit.

I have feelings for him—I always have—our break-up had nothing to do with either of us not wanting each other desperately. But these aren’t just leftover echoes of a sweet, first love—this is something new. A throbbing, breathless attraction to the amazing man he’s become. I want to be near him. I want to know him, inside and out, all over again.

And he feels the same way. Garrett wants this version of me as much as he always did—maybe even more. I heard it in his whispered words and felt it in his kiss.

I don’t know if we have a future, if it can go anywhere. We have separate lives on opposite ends of the country. But I’m not going to worry about that—for now, I’m going to take each day as it comes and enjoy every moment we can.

Except for now. Now is not the time for enjoying or worrying or relationship building…now is the time for focusing. Now is the time to be ice and steel—don’t smile, don’t waver.

“Little fucknutters don’t know who the hell they’re dealing with,” I growl.

Allison pumps her fist. “That’s the spirit.”

Garrett opens the door for me. “Go get ‘em, Gangster’s Paradise.”
