Review: Resisting The Moon by L.P. Dover

Title: Resisting the Moon
Series: A Royal Shifters Novel
Author: L.P. Dover
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: December 29, 2015

The past was pain.
The present unclear.

For Tyla Rand, her future couldn’t be bleaker. Death follows her everywhere, especially behind those she cares about. Being a member of the royal pack, she believes her time of happiness will come. That is, until wolves from her old pack show up missing. Her mission is to find them, but she won’t be going alone.

Sebastian Lyall, a true born royal and the one man Tyla loathes, has offered to help in her quest. Their journey not only brings out their true desires, but attracts the attention of another, someone from Tyla’s past. However, nothing is as it seems. Death is not done with her and now he wants her to pay. He won’t be satisfied until he’s taken everything away . . including those she loves.

I totally am LOVING shifting books lately. I can’t get enough and LP Dover is shooting to the top of my favorite PNR author list! Resisting The Moon is book two in the Royal Shifters series and can totally be read as a standalone however I do highly recommend Turn of The Moon (book 1) because it was fantastic.

Resisting the Moon is Tyla’s and Sebastian’s story. Tyla (who we saw in another series of LP Dover’s as a side character) fights the connection she has with Sebastian. They are true mates but she pushes and pushes him away. I loved how strong Tyla was since she was an alpha wolf too and thought she didn’t need protection. It was really sexy how Sebastian went after her. She learned that two alphas are better than one.

Sebastian is a true alpha. A royal and a protector. I loved how much he cared for Tyla even when she was making it difficult for him to even like her.
This book had such depth. The plot of Tyla’s old pack’s past really was intriguing to read. I love the idea of true mates, that together they are stronger and the bond they share. The love they had was unbreakable.

LP Dover did an amazing job creating a world I want to be a part of. I can’t wait for more of this series. She introduced more characters for us to love at the end of this book and I really am interested in seeing where she takes it. This series has the potential to go on for a long time and I for one hope it does.

“Can I help you?” I asked, turning to face Sebastian Lyall.

His whitish-blond hair was perfectly coifed in messy spikes, his light blue, button down shirt matching the color of his eyes. The last thing I needed was to look into them. He’d had me tongue tied several times in the past and it ended up making me look like an idiot.

Smirking, Sebastian stepped closer, holding out a hand. “Would you care to dance?”

Rolling my eyes, I nodded toward the group of women in the corner who watched his every move. “Why don’t you ask one of your groupies? I’m sure they’d be more than willing.”

He and his brothers, Micah and Zayne, along with Colin, were hot commodities in our pack. They were all royal wolves—the elite. No female could resist them, except me that is. I couldn’t complain though; the royals helped make our pack invincible.

Sebastian leaned closer, his gaze serious. “I asked you, Tyla Rand. Besides, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“Why do we have to dance in order for you to spill? Just say it now.”

Chuckling, he grabbed my hand and pulled me to the dance floor. “What’s the matter, afraid to be close to me? I promise I won’t bite.”

Right. Huffing, I reluctantly walked onto the dance floor just when the tempo changed to a slower, sensual beat. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I growled. Other couples joined in and held each other, swaying to the music, while I stood there like a fool.

Grabbing my other hand, Sebastian pulled my arms around his shoulders and put his around my waist. “See? Not so bad.”

I glared up at him. “Just keep your hands from wandering. Now what do you want to talk about?” His hands snaked lower and I growled. “Keep it up and see where your hands end up next.”

Chuckling, he lifted them higher. “I like watching your cheeks blush. It’s sexy as hell.”

“Who just stole my thunder across the Hafton airwaves, you ask? Right now, right this very second, listeners, I have Hafton’s one-and-only, the main man with the ball in hand, Blane Steele is in the studio. Mark my words—he’ll not only steal the ball, but your lady’s heart too. Watch out, gentlemen, the Stealer is in the house!”
— Sonny B. Knocking Boots, Hafton Radio 96.9

Coed antics.

Chaos.

Angst-ridden twists in fate.

Caterina is an intern. Sonny is her shock-jock boss. And Blane is a good-hearted baller…except when he steps on the court. Between on-air dares, an evil feminist professor, a straight-shooter of a coach, and rumors from the league surrounding Steele, these three are destined to screw it all up.

Rather than a love triangle, this is a friends-to-lovers story where the disc jockey acts as the catalyst, and a basketball player finds his life transformed when center court intersects with love.

I stood, flipped off the asshole who’d just destroyed my social life, and strode toward the door. The curvy chick opened it wide for me before I even remembered she was still standing there.

 “Thanks,” I mumbled. “After you.”

I leaned into the door frame as I propped the door open with my elbow and gestured for her to walk ahead. Avoiding my eyes, she slipped past me with a muttered thank-you.

As the door clicked shut behind us, I said to her, “Yeah, well, a hand job may be nice, but I guess that’s out after what I promised inside there.” I tilted my head back toward the studio and laughed at my own joke.

She turned and shot me a hard glare, her oversized sweatshirt sagging off one shoulder.

Most other girls I knew would have been fine if I dropped trou right there and whipped my dick right the fuck out. Their hands would have been just itching to grab me. But not this one.

“Kidding. I was kidding.” I lifted my hands in the air in surrender.

All of a sudden, I felt ashamed of my behavior. I wasn’t that guy. Was I?

She raised an eyebrow, making me question my character some more.

“I’m serious. Kidding. Listen, don’t let him boss you around. Once upon a time, Sonny was an intern too. A lowly, pimply one.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” Her words were thick with an East Coast accent and heavy with doubt. “See you around,” she said, dismissing me at the supply closet.

Riley Mackenzie. What a talented pair of girls. Abruption in their 3rd book, and their writing just keeps getting better and better. This story has a nice steady flow, enough wit to satisfy, plenty of emotion to keep you invested, and realistic, likable characters that you can relate to. In other words, awesome writing.

This story centers around Jules and Guy. Guy is a widower with 2 young children, one with special needs. Jules is a nurse who is harboring a tragic secret, which we don't find out what it is until later. Upon first meeting, Guy is a total jerk to Jules. His son, Finn, is in the hospital (one of many times), and Jules is his nurse. Guy is also a surgeon at the hospital that they are at, so he knows the staff well. Jules is new to the hospital. Guy's children instantly fall for Jules and Finn wants only Jules when he is in the hospital again. This makes Guy take another look at the new nurse and realize there must be more than meets the eye with her.

One date is all it takes for the couple to be completely smitten, and from then on, they spend as much time together as they can (kids included). They quickly become an unconventional family. I loved the dynamic between Guy and Jules. They were sweet. They were hot. They were everything in between. However, they ALWAYS put the kids first. When we learned Jules' secret, my heart absolutely shattered for her. I just cannot imagine. I don't want to.

This book felt a bit long while I was reading it. However, as I sit here and reflect on the story, I see how every single thing the authors included was integral to the story. Without everything that happened, the story wouldn't have been as well rounded and complete as it was. The only issue that I had with this story is the use of some the technical medical terms. I get it. He's a doctor and she's a nurse, so the lingo should be natural to them. However, a few times I didn't know what was meant and it threw me off a little, but not nearly enough to detract from the story. Regardless, this is a definite must read book!

This was my first Riley Mackenzie book and it certainly won’t be the last. From the first pages of the prologue I was sucked into the book. I simply devoured the story and really enjoyed every second of it. There is something about a great devoted single dad that really is so hot!

Guy, our hero was living a good life, maybe not the one he always dreamed about but a good one none the less. Until it was all ripped away. After his loss he became a devoted dad and hardworking surgeon. And grumpy! Man he was a grump. But the way he loved his kids really had me swooning left and right.

Jules, our heroine was a nurse, loving her job even though it wasn’t the one she always thought she’d have. I really loved Jules’ character. She seemed so real in my eyes. Down to earth, kind, loving and willing to do whatever it took to help the ones she cared about.
Jules and Guy instant had an attraction albeit not necessarily favorable in the beginning but something about them together really worked. I loved watching this couple form and how the kids played a huge role in the coupling. This story had a bit of instalove that seemed a tad faster than I typically like but it seemed to work for them.

I highly recommend this story to all romance lovers and if you like the single dad romances as much as I do, you NEED this book.

Yep. That's an “s.” There are two of us! We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say. Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources since they married us. It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world needed a splash of medicine. Write what you know. So you can easily find us at 4 o'clock on Bank Street beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands (totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes, it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight quotations). When we are not working on our book or reading the latest angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on. Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball, basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school. Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine? Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know), otherwise it might have taken us two years to write Beautifully Awake rather than one. So that’s our story, who we are … just add AUTHORS to the list!

Shevaun DeLucia, author of the Eternal Mixture Series and The Forbidden Love Series, lives in upstate New York with her husband, four children, and two dogs. As a stay-at-home mom while her children were young, she fell in love with reading. When reading wasn’t enough to satisfy her, she turned to writing, determined to create the perfect ending of her own.
