The Knight by Skye Warren is another wonderfully dark read. Whenever I'm in the mood for a dark and sexy read, I know I can always count on this author. 

If you haven't read the first book, The Pawn, it is a must. This book picks up right where The Pawn left off, so you will be lost without reading it first. That being said, I love this series. The author wraps this story in a tangle of lies and mystery. I was so intrigued that I read this book in one sitting. I just had to know what happens.

I want to hate Gabriel, but I just can't. He's dark, dangerous, and totally alpha. Just when I think he is the biggest jerk, he shows a sweet, caring, protective side. I just keep falling for this character. 

Of course, the story doesn't totally wrap up. We get the pleasure of at least one more book, The Castle. As someone who hate cliffhangers, I can honestly say that these books do not end in one. Yes, there is more to the story, but we aren't left hanging off of a precipice. We are just left wanting more!

The Pawn by Skye Warren is everything that I've come to expect from this author. It's a dark tale with great characters and I loved every second of this story.

Avery's life takes a abrupt 180 when she father's mistakes come to fruition. Having to drop out of college and almost out of money to pay bills and her father's mounting healthcare needs, she becomes desperate. So desperate that she goes to a loan shark for help. What she doesn't expect is for Gabriel Miller, the man responsible for her father's downfall to be in attendance when she arrives. With nothing of value to put up for collateral, the men decide to auction her virginity.

Gabriel has no intention of letting anyone else touch her and he wins her in the auction. For one month, she is his. She moves into his home and is to be available to him whenever he wants. I loved the tension in this story. Avery is nervous about losing her virginity; she has no idea when Gabriel will take it. Once we get to know Gabriel, we find that he is quite complex. He has his own code of honor that he strictly follows. These two characters make for a very interesting story.

Well, this book is not at all what I was expecting for Ivan and Candy's story. I really, really like where the author took it. As far as erotic romance goes, Skye Warren does a fantastic job. She knows how to crank up the heat! BUT, she also spins a good story to infused that heat into. This is book 3 in the Stripped series and while it can be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend that you read the other books first (just because they are awesome).

This story starts off before Candy becomes a stripper,  before and when she meets Ivan. We learn of her escape from a commune and how she really felt she had no where to turn. Ivan became a sort of hero to her, taking her in and keeping her safe, in his own way. They develop a strange relationship where Candy wants to please him, but she also craves his discipline and punishments. On the flip side he wants to keep her in line, but also to keep her at arms length.

There are several "attacks" towards Ivan's club and Candy is convinced that they are connected to her past. She is terrified. She's feels that her only option to stay safe, and to keep everyone she cares for safe, is to run again. But, oh, no, Ivan is not on board with that idea. At all! The suspense surrounding these attacks was great. From unraveling Candy's past, to the characters trying to find a solution; it was a good adventure. I loved the hot, steamy scenes that the author included. It was a bit of a reprieve from the suspense.

Ivan and Candy both grew as characters. They both learned how to navigate their relationship, their roles in it, and how to open up. Not only that, they grew as individual characters and their places in the story. I think their growth was probably my favorite aspect of this story. Pretty When You Cry is a book that will satisfy not only lovers of erotica, but also romantic suspense. Thankfully, I love both, so this book was just perfect for me!
