Normal (Book 1)

It's the kind of situation most people would dread. Starting at a new high school, in the middle of my senior year, in a new town, in a new state. I know no one. No one knows me. That's what I'm counting on. A year ago, Aurora "Rory" Pine was just a normal teenage girl - just as sweet and naive as the fairy tale princess she was named after. But this isn't a year ago. Rory is broken, and suffering from a new debilitating anxiety disorder, wrought with precarious triggers, she moves across the country to escape the source of her troubles. Her plan is anonymity, but that's easier said than achieved for the new girl having a panic episode outside of calculus. The worst part? There's a witness - and a gorgeous one at that. Sam is a walking trigger for Rory. Incredibly handsome, built like the star athlete he obviously is, and undoubtedly popular, Sam outwardly represents everything Rory despises about high school. But as the fates keep throwing them together, a connection sparks that neither ever expected, and certainly can’t ignore. But Sam has issues too, and Rory's past won't just stay in the damned past. When friendship evolves into something deeper, can a girl utterly destroyed by the worst kind of betrayal and a boy battling demons of his own ever have a normal relationship? Is that even what they want? Find out in NORMAL, a gritty story of trust and abuse, heartbreak and salvation, and if they're lucky - love. This is not a flowery romance - not for the faint of heart.

Recap-eBook-2

ReCap (Book 1.5)

Rory and Sam fell in love in NORMAL, and we all fell in love right along with them. Now see it all unfold through Sam's eyes, and learn just how the new girl with anxiety issues stole the heart of the gorgeous heartthrob, and turned his world upside down. You already heard the story. The one of how Rory and I fell in love, supposedly, even if she couldn't handle it in the end. You know how it all went. Or you think you do. You only know her side. But I have my own point of view, and even Rory couldn't know my thoughts in those few months it took for her to go from being a stranger to my whole entire world. Every moment is permanently ingrained in my memory. In my goddamned soul. From the moment I stumbled upon the girl panicking outside of calculus - the one with the tight little body, the angelic face, and the fierce attitude - to the night she abandoned me in Miami. It was the sum of those moments that changed me irrevocably. Our story isn't over. I won't let it be. But this, this is what happened so far, the way I saw it. I'm Cap. Or Sam, to Rory. And this is my story.

Okay_correction-DPOkay (Book 2)

After the horrors she’s survived over the past year, Rory never expected to find the one thing she certainly wasn’t looking for – love. But after the painful realization that her past has left her a dangerous liability to the person she cares for the most, she finally understands that for her and Sam, love means letting go. Can two people hopelessly in love ever revert back to just friends? Neither Rory nor Sam knows for sure. But the one thing they do know – it’s the only choice they have. As Rory recovers from a devastating assault, Sam will do anything to make sure it never happens again. But how far will he go to keep her safe? Their choices will change everything, and they will either bring them back together, or destroy them irrevocably.
Normal Book 1

4.5 Stars
Normal takes on the difficult subject matter of teen domestic/sexual abuse. Please be aware that there are some disturbing scenes in this book that are a bit difficult to read. The character in this book, Rory, is the victim in this book. This is her story of rising above and healing from her horrific ordeal.
Rory was not only physically and mentally abused by her ex-boyfriend, but raped repeatedly as well. When the truth comes out, the whole town (including her father) turns against her. See, her ex is a football star and the golden boy in their town. When the harrassment becomes too much, her mother takes her to live in New York, where she is from. Understandably, Rory tries to stay invisible at her new school. Unfortunately, before her first class, she meets the most popular boy in school, Sam Caplan, when he helps her through a panic attack. After a few issues, Sam and Rory form an unbreakable friendship. He becomes her rock. However, in her new life, she also makes friends with a couple of girls. One of the girls, Carl, she knew from when she would visit her grandparents, so they already had a bond. It just strengthened.
This story is told so wonderfully. It is told in the present, when Rory is trying to rebuild not just her life, but herself. We also get flashbacks of the past. Of her former best friend, Cam, their relationship, then the relationship that wrecked her world and the ensuing chaos. My heart broke for Rory, but I also celebrated her victories when she would get over a trigger or stand up for herself. I did predict some things that happened in the book, but the author's writing immerses you so in the moment of the book that it almost feels like you're blindsided. She infuses this story with a vast array of emotions. You feel the character's sharp heartbreak and defeat and her moments of joy and heartbreak. I didn't merely read this book – I experienced it.

Recap Book 1.5

3.5 Stars
Well, the title says it all. This novella is a Recap of Normal. However, it is told in Sam's POV. I'm always pretty leery when it comes to the retelling of stories from the other POV. I can count on one hand the ones that I enjoyed and thought contributed to the series as a whole.
The author does a pretty decent job at retelling the events in book 1. It wasn't a play by play, but just important scenes where we got Sam's thoughts. I thought Sam was wonderful in Normal. I still like him, but he seems so full of guilt or something. I don't know.  He just feels like everything is his fault. I guess that makes him a product of his childhood, though, so I can't really fault his character. I absolutely loved witnessing him fall for Rory through his thoughts.
I'm usually bored when I read these alternate POV books, but I wasn't with this book. While I knew what was going to happen, I didn't feel like it was all redundant. The author presented it in a way that the scenes felt new and I  felt like I experienced them for the first time. The emotions are just as potent in this book as it was the first. I'm curious to see how the story will play out in Okay.

Okay Book 3
5 Stars

This book just catapulted this series to my favorites list for the year. It is beautifully written with a healthy dose of emotions. Okay is anything but. It is a beautifully written book of the healing power of love.
This book is told in the dual POVs of Sam and Rory. The longing and heartache for each other is etched into each page. They love each other so much and want the best for the other. Thus their current situation.
Rory… my heart broke for this character. What she endured and is still going through is terrible. Then, to feel like she has to deny herself her one sliver of peace and happiness in order to protect Sam. She deserved something happy. Then we have Sam. The playboy with the heart of gold. He falls so deeply in love with a girl who changes his outlook on life and relationships, but she is just out of his grasp. However,  he loves her enough to take her any way that he can – as just a friend.
I want so badly to tell everyone detail of this story, but I just can’t bring myself to ruin this reading experience for others. This story has embedded itself into my heart, like good ones do. This series is a favorite for sure!

Read an Interview with Author Danielle Pearl
  1. In 5 words, how would you describe your ‘Writing Style'
Real, honest, angsty, suspenseful, emotional.
  1. When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?
The new releases! But I inevitably wind up lost between the romance shelves, sometimes for hours.
  1. What is your favorite book from childhood?
Easily and unequivocally The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery. My mother gave me her copy when I was ten or eleven and I fell in love with both the story and the (translated) prose. My mom read it in its original French, and I've always been jealous of that, but alas, my French is limited to menus and a few curses.
  1. What do you do when you are not writing?
I have three kids, including an eight month old baby, so... that. And, of course, read.
  1. What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
I've been writing since I was a kid. My mom used to buy me those blank journals to keep a diary, and I would fill them up with pure fiction. As far as my first published work, Normal, it was inspired by an article written by a remarkably strong woman, and the comments below it that made my head spin. Here's a link to my blog post all about it: daniellepearl.com/home/the-inspiration-for-normal
  1. What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would advise younger me to ignore her doubts and publish sooner. And not to try and design my own cover :/
  1. List the 5 books your HEROINE loves best and why...
Forever by Peter Hamill because New York is her safe haven, and she loves reading about its colorful history (Rory does read this book in Normal). Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher because she's inspired by the heroine's strength and survival. The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery because she can relate to its message on narrow-mindedness. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher because she connects deeply to the protagonist and wishes there were more people like him in the world. Wuthering Heights, because in Rory's eyes, love, contempt, and tragedy all go hand in hand.
  1. Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special? What makes them special to you?
Rory is a survivor. She has suffered the worst kind of betrayal by those meant to love her the most, and while she definitely struggles, she is fierce and determined to move forward with her life. But it's how she slowly and reluctantly opens up to a handsome stranger that makes her special. How a girl with every reason in the world to write off men decides to let this one in, first as a friend, and then, eventually... something more.
  1. What drew you to the romance genre? What are your Top Favorite Romance novels?
I'm your classic hopeless romantic. I was boy-crazy since I was a kid, but I learned fast that boys in real life aren't always all that great (my amazing husband not included!). But in books... in books they are everything.   Top faves- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Hopeless by Colleen Hoover Easy by Tammara Webber Bully by Penelope Douglas Corrupt by Penelope Douglas Real by Katy Evans The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen
  1. What is your favorite line from any of your books?
That's like asking me to choose a favorite child! But today I'll go with "Our lips crash together in a desperate union, each trying to steal a piece of the other, trying to leave some of ourselves behind."

Synopsis
Taylor Shaw had the perfect life—until she was sixteen. That was when everything changed. From that moment on, life went from bad to worse…to the worst. After recovering from a brain tumor, months later, she suffers the tragic loss of her whole family. Since that fateful day, she’s been coasting through life.
Now, the brain tumor has returned, and Taylor decides she’s had enough. She’s going to take her fate into her own hands. No more hospitals. No more surgeries. No more anything. She’s going to join her family. It’s her decision. What she longs for. The ending she wants.
She just has a list of things to do before she goes. First, go to England. Second, kiss a stranger…
Only, Taylor didn’t expect Liam Hunter, the stranger—with his handsome face, his six-foot-three of gorgeousness, and his oh-so-hot English accent—to change things. To change her. To change the ending she wanted.
What is a girl, who is standing on the edge of nothing, to do when offered the chance of everything?

A Note from Samantha: Writing The Ending I Want has been a cathartic and exhausting process for me, but I have loved every second of writing it. I relate to this story more than any of the stories that I’ve written before. Maybe that’s because there’s a piece of me in this book. And not in Taylor having a brain tumor, because fortunately I’ve never had to endure anything like that. But for me, it was the need to feel free from something that has crippled me for many years, just like Taylor is crippled by her own pain. Taylor wanted to die to be free. I never wanted to die, but I did want to be free, in a way that’s hard to explain. But now, after years of feeling trapped by my demons, things that have held me back in life, I’ve found a way to get the freedom I needed. I’m still a work in progress, but I’m working better now than I ever did before - just saying this cryptic stuff out loud is a big step for me. So, writing Taylor in the way I did was a big deal for me. I really hope that you love this story, and see strength in Taylor's choices rather than weakness.
The Ending I Want Teaser 1
Excerpt
Go to England. Kiss a stranger. Have lots of sex,” his deep voice rumbles out the words I wrote. He glances at me over his shoulder, a shit-eating grin on his face. I don’t even bother with trying to get the list back now. What’s the point? He’s already seen it. Bastard. I fall back into my seat, my face feeling like a blowtorch went at it. “You’re an asshole,” I mutter. He turns to face me, my list in his hand but still held out of my reach. “Aw, don’t be like that, Taylor, from Boston. I was just curious to read it.” I’m pretty sure he’s going for contrite, but he’s failing miserably. I glare at him. I’m going for death-by-laser stare. It doesn’t work because he gives me a panty-dropping smile. I’d like to say I’m unaffected, but I’m not; however, I don’t let him know that. “Curious? I don’t think so. An effing thief? Yes.” He laughs. “I’m sorry. But you don’t need to be embarrassed. It’s a good list.” He looks back to my list. “Have sex with a stranger,” he continues on reading. “Have sex with a stranger outdoors. You do know I can help you with all of these, right?” He lifts a brow at me. I give him the middle finger. He laughs again and looks back to the list. Then, he stops laughing and stares at me with what can only be described as complete horror. “You’ve never had oral sex?” Fuck. Why the hell did I put that on my list?

Release Day Blitz: The Dance by Alison G. Bailey

Photographer:  Abigail Marie, Non Pa'Reil Photography

Cover Design: Murphy Hopkins, Indie Solutions

The Dance is the story of what happens after the happily ever.

Bryson Walker stumbled heart first into the steady rhythm of her life, never questioning whether other possibilities existed. She had been Will’s girl since their junior year in high school, followed him to college, and married him soon after graduation.

In every respect, they were a loving and successful couple, until a series of missteps shattered all of Bryson’s truths. Maybe their life was nothing more than smoke and mirrors. A performance that was never based in reality.

Hart was barely an acquaintance. He and Bryson shared one brief moment during senior prom, full of friction and heat that ignited a spark. But that night Bryson walked away and Hart let her go.

Years later, twisted fate brings Bryson and Hart together again, causing her to wonder if this is her second chance at once in a lifetime.

the Dance

Prologue
I stood in front of the glass wall, mesmerized. The fake sunlight shimmered down through the water, bouncing off the yellow, green, and pink coral. The blue glow of the tank gave the dimly lit nook a mystical dreamy feel.
The prom committee had pulled off an epic feat this year. Instead of having the dance in our gross school gym it was being held at the new state-of-the-art aquarium downtown. Once the student committee agreed, Megan Sims, head cheerleader and overly developed youth, was given the task of presenting the new location idea to the faculty advisor, Mr. Hall. During the meeting, as Megan waxed poetic about riding the waves of hope out into the ocean of the future, she hoisted her massive boobs up to meet Mr. Hall’s sightline. Three seconds into Megan’s spiel the dude was so titnotized that he would have offered up his first born in order to pay the rental fee.
At first, I had my doubts about spending my final prom at the aquarium. The fishy décor didn’t exactly scream romance, but I had to admit, it was pretty cool. The dance was in Ballroom A, which opened up onto a huge deck facing the Charleston harbor. Inside three giant purple octopus chandeliers hung down from the ceiling, casting cool shadows on the walls covered in varying shades of blue. Big white coral sculptures were at the four corners of the room. Tables draped in white linen with candles and seashell centerpieces outlined the room, leaving a huge space in the middle for dancing.

Tour: Love Emerged by Michelle Lynn

Dylan

Bea Zanders’s interest penetrated me.
I tried to ignore her unwavering eyes and lasting touches.
But my willpower failed me.

Our one-night affair was mutual.
No expectations, no exchanging of phone numbers, nothing.
The next morning, she sauntered out of my life as fast as she had entered it.

Bea

I claimed Dylan McCain as soon as I saw him.
His disheveled dark hair and tattooed arms screamed bad boy.
Finally, I won, and he claimed me in return.

But in the light of day, he changed.
His smile further dented those dreamy dimples.
His panicked green eyes held layers of kindness.
Making sure the rules were clear, I walked away, showing him how little relationships meant to me.

Now, two months later, we come face-to-face again—as coworkers.

4 Stars
Geez, where to start...
I wasn't sure how I felt about a story for Dylan and Bea. The two were just fune as supporting characters, but I just didn’t know. I liked Bea okay in the first books, but she wasn't an OMG I need her story kind of character for me. Turns out I really, really enjoyed her story. Well, it isn't just her story, but Dylan's as well. Love Emerged is book 3 in this series, and it is a great addition.
At first, I was a bit wishy washy about Bea. She's kind of *itchy. However, once the author peels back her layers, it is evident that her attitude is her armor. I won't lie, I liked her sassy, take no crap attitude, but sometimes (at the beginning), it was a bit much. She doesn't do relationships, and just wants a friends with benefits one with Dylan.
Dylan on the other hand is one of the good guys. He is a relationships guy. He is searching for his one, and he can't seem to get Bea out of his system. I just loved him. I loved how his alpha would come out, but he was always sweet and cautious of Bea's needs.
The characters really came into their own in this story. When one was weak, the other was there for them (usually this was Dylan there for Bea). They made a great match. This story is a great Contemporary Romance and is a perfect read when you are looking for something light and fun.

My coworkers’ hands slow down until the clapping eventually dies.
“So, I’m excited to announce that Deacon Advertising has landed a top-notch graduate of NYU. After a fighting war, we won out.”
I inch up on my tiptoes to see the mystery million-dollar man, but to no avail. Big Vic from the mailroom is blocking any view I might have of the man standing next to Tim.
“Oh my dreams, he’s come to life,” Kevin says next to me.
I crane my neck desperate to catch a glimpse.
“He’s good-looking?” I whisper, still dodging my head in each direction to catch a glimpse. I’ve never been patient when I’m the one in the dark.
“That’s an understatement. This man could not shower for a week and have spinach stuck in each one of his teeth, and I’d still melt at the sight of those dimples.”
With the one word dimples, my stomach flips as I think about Dylan. He thought he was skating the issue the next morning when he said he had to go. Asking me to climb down the trellis of his parents’ house was new for me, but I understood. If my mom had been on the other side of the bedroom door, I’d have pushed him out the window. At least he met me down the street and drove me back to the bar to retrieve my car. He was sweet and kind to think my feelings would be hurt once I realized I was a booty call. Hell, he was my booty call.
“Deaconators, please put those hands together and welcome Dylan McCain.”
“Even the name.” Kevin shakes his head, probably already naming their kids.
“What?” I screech.
A few heads turn toward me.
I inch back to Kevin’s side, taking refuge in a friend. “It can’t be.”
Then, as if I asked for it, he switches spots with Tim, and he’s standing there with those mouth-watering dimples on high alert. Through a sliver of space between Big Vic from the mailroom and Ben from design, he’s clearly visible. And I can’t take my eyes off him.
A high-end tailored suit contours his broad shoulders, buttoned down past his taut waist. No tie but a nice, crisp gray shirt lies under his jacket with the top button undone. His hair is freshly cut, and the small waves are now gelled into a style that doesn’t suit him as well as the messy morning look.
As if he can spot me in the crowd of one hundred, our eyes catch, and my throat dries. For the first time in my life, I’m speechless. My body warms, and I don’t know if it’s because of the intimate things I shared with him that night or the fact that, besides Piper, he’s the first one in so long who seems to care for me.
“Hello, Deaconators.” He laughs. “Surely, we can find a better name than that, Tim.” He clasps Tim on the shoulder and winks.
The room uproars into laughter, and I can’t stop the smile sneaking across my lips.
“I’m happy to be here. I’m originally from the Detroit area. I grew up forty minutes outside of the city. I did my internship at AdSec in New York, but I wanted to come back home to my roots. So, here I am.”
He does a bow just like Tim, and I know he’s already mimicking his new boss. Dylan has a dry sense of humor, much like my own. He adds on a little wave of his hand in front of him, and suddenly, I wish we were back in the eighteen hundreds, and he was asking for my hand at a dance.
No, you don’t. Stop that line of thinking, I scold myself.
The room claps again, and Dylan stands there, absorbing the attention. He’s the glory boy, huh?
“You okay?” Kevin asks as everyone funnels out of the room.
“Yes, why?” I toss my own coffee in the trash can in the corner, not needing anything to further warm my veins.
“You look a little flushed, that’s all.” He laughs and brushes by Big Vic to make his exit. “See you at lunch,” he singsongs, leaving me behind. Thinking twice, he turns, his feet continuing to move with the line of traffic. He raises his cup in the air. “Thanks for the coffee, Bea Zanders. Tomorrow’s on me.”
He smiles, and I glance over to Dylan. He’s shaking hands with a line of women currently attempting to dig up his credentials. Married, engaged, or single?
Those green hues sparkle to me like emeralds in a jewelry store, and I hold his gaze. I’m surprised he doesn’t seem as shocked as I am, but instead more curious. Then, a slow smirk crosses his lips, and he turns to the woman touching his bicep. He shakes her hand, and before the next desperate woman can slide into her spot, he breaks free. Zigzagging between the throng of people, he lightly acknowledges the pats on his back, congratulations, and good-to-meet-you’s, but his eyes are focused solely on mine.
My body buzzes with alarm, feasting on his eyes bearing happiness. Once he finally breaks free, his fingers slide down my arm, capturing my hand, and he veers us away from the stampede.

SYNOPSIS:

The equations are simple.

Piper Ashby + Brad Ashby = Twin Siblings
Brad Ashby + Tanner McCain = Best Friends
Piper Ashby + Tanner McCain = Off limits

Tanner and I abided by the rules. We stayed on our designated sides of the relationship circle.

Ignoring swarming butterflies.
Brushing off skipped heartbeats.
Settling on lingering stares.

Here’s the secret … a hand extended over that invisible line once, exponentially changing the equation. I was convinced we could make our relationship work until Tanner broke the trust he embedded in me from the age of seven.

One deceit of mega proportions and the relationship we built for that short month vanished. I swore never to speak to him again and it’s worked. Until now—two years later, when my brother’s wedding places me face-to-face with the best man—Tanner McCain.

Leaving one equation to be solved. Can love surface twice?

SYNOPSIS:

Taylor Delaney is the love of my life.
She’s also the one I've hurt the most.
Two years ago, I made a disastrous mistake.
One I’m not sure I can make amends from.
But I have to try, because I’m nothing without her.

Brad Ashby's here, in my hometown, asking for a second chance.
All those unresolved feelings for him have resurfaced.
Not that they ever went away.
I know I should run him out of the town, but I can’t.
He needs to know that I wasn’t the only one who was deceived.

Even if we gave our relationship another try, how can we rebuild what’s been destroyed? If we weren’t strong enough then, what makes us strong enough now?

This is a standalone novel involving two characters from Michelle Lynn's Love Surfaced novel.

THE EMPTY JAR IS LIVE!  And what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with a book like this, a poignant tale about the power of love.  This is what readers are saying about the new story from M. Leighton:

“The ultimate love story.”
“It is a masterpiece.”
“Heartbreaking. Hopeful. Brilliant.”
“Hands down the best book I have ever read.”
“If I could only tell you to read one book this year, it would be this book.”
“After today, life as I know it will be ‘AEJ’, after The Empty Jar. I will not be the same.”

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
This book is not a romantic fairy tale. Yet, it’s the most romantic story I’ve ever told. It’s a journey of pain and loss, of hope and happiness. It’s both achingly tragic and exquisitely beautiful. It’s a love story. A true love story about real love. The kind that sees you through the night and holds you when you cry. The kind that won't give up and never lets go. The kind we all dream about and few find. But it’s real. I promise you, it’s real. I’ve seen this kind of love, and I've seen this kind of heartbreak. I got to see it up close and personal, and quite honestly, I will never be the same. I hope it changes you as much as it changed me.

Three months touring Europe.
Romantic. Dazzling. Unforgettable.
The trip of a lifetime.

But some lifetimes are shorter…

We couldn’t have known it would work out this way. No one could. No one could’ve guessed that something so beautiful could be so tragic.

But it is tragic.
Yet so, so beautiful.

That’s what sacrifice is—beauty and tragedy.
It’s pain and suffering for something or someone you love.

And this is the ultimate sacrifice.
One stunning act of true love.

This is our story.
Our true love story.

How do you write a review when you feel like your whole world has been shattered by a book? I can honestly say I’ve never read a book that has touched me like this. At one point my tears were falling so fast my husband begged me to stop reading. I couldn’t stop even though my heart was breaking.

The Empty Jar tells the story of Nate and Lena. You get their full story and a little bit after their story is over. It is the ultimate love story. I loved the connection you feel between Nate and Lena. You feel their happiness, their sadness and all the maddening moments in between that draw you in to their story. Several times while reading I stopped to think about their decisions. Would I make this decision if it was me? A few times I thought, I don’t think I could have made the decisions they had. Then in the next page, I was again second guessing if I could or would have made the decisions they were. In all honesty? I pray I never have to make those decisions and neither does my husband. Michelle hits a topic that scares me, scares me to my core. She wrote it so beautifully though that if this ever does happen to me, I hope I can be as brave as Lena was, and that my husband would follow Nate’s decisions.

This book is about life. REAL LIFE. The ups. The downs. The heartbreak. EVERYTHING. The feels in this book alone have left my mind reeling. How long will this book hangover last? How can I move forward from the experience I had reading The Empty Jar? Only time will tell.

Read. This. Story. It’s beautiful. You will cry. Multiple times. I hardly ever cry while reading, sometimes I think I’m broken because my friends will get so touched by a book and I’m over here thinking what is wrong with me? I cried with this story and it was so worth it. I’d do it again. Not for some time though. My poor heart couldn’t take a repeat right now. LOL.

Michelle, you’ve written an amazing book. I know this couldn’t have been easy on you but you made something absolutely beautiful that will stick with your readers forever.
