Release Day Blitz, Review and Giveaway: Last Night by M. Pierce

Title:   Last Light  (Night Owl Trilogy Book #2)
Author:   M. Pierce
Release Date: October 28, 2014
Genre:   Contemporary Erotic Romance

Tensions rise, secrets grow bigger, and passions run deeper—and hotter—in Last Light, the second novel of the Night Owl Trilogy from bestselling author M. Pierce.

Matt Sky is missing. After a solo ascent of Longs Peak that left only a large blood stain, tatters of climbing clothing, and the tracks of an animal in the snow, he is presumed dead.

Hannah Catalano is guarding a secret: she knows Matt is alive. After Matt's memorial service, she lingers on the East Coast with his family, but it soon becomes clear that his brothers' motives
are less than gracious. Nate Sky is bent on tracking down the author of Night Owl, a book that charts the last days of Matt's life with uncanny and scandalous accuracy, and which appeared only after his death. Seth Sky is bent on getting Hannah into his bed.

Hidden away in the woods, Matt and Hannah strive desperately to maintain their ruse and their relationship—but their web of lies only tightens as Matt struggles with the consequences of his decision, and Hannah tries to escape Nate's libel suit and fend off Seth's advances...until Hannah is put in danger, and Matt must make a life or death choice.

Matt insisted on carrying me to the bathroom. I hugged his neck.
“Matt, you realize I can walk with a black eye, right?”
“I’ll be the judge of that.” He set me on the counter and I squeaked; the marble was frigid under my bare bottom. He dropped one of my bath bombs in the tub and watched it fizz and color the water purple.
Once, I managed to convince Matt to use a bath bomb with me. It was called a “sex bomb” and it was supposed to “put us in the mood” with “exciting scents” and “natural pheromones.” I grinned at the memory. As soon as Matt realized the bomb was coating his skin in sparkles, he leapt out of the tub ranting about “looking Twilighty” and “smelling like a girl.”
            “What’re you grinning at?”
“You.” I smiled. “And this bath, which is such a transparent effort to avoid saying goodbye. Sweet… but transparent.”
Matt frowned and paced the small space of the bathroom. Ha! I was right. Matt planned to leave me in the tub and slip away.
My poor, adorable night owl—he really had issues with goodbyes.
            “No,” he mumbled. “Maybe…”
“Can I induce you to stay a little longer?” I uncrossed my legs deliberately and spread them. Matt watched. He folded his arms and tilted his head.
            “How does your cheek feel?”
            “They’re cold.” I grinned.
“And you say I’m bad.” He slid me off the sink and turned me. I watched our reflection through the patchy steam on the mirror. Matt—God, he was so tall, and the look on his face was arresting. He wanted me. I knew that look.

M. Pierce is nothing short of genius. I worried this author wouldn’t be able to replicate the brilliance found in the pages of Night Owl, but Last Light is every bit as genius as its predecessor. Seriously. Phenomenal. This review will be brief because there’s nothing I can say about the characters or story that won’t reveal spoilers. Again, I was pushed beyond my comfort zone while reading this story. I personally would never find myself in some of the situations/relationships these characters are engaged in, but I can’t condemn them. I could only embrace the uniqueness of this story and let myself dabble in a world opposite of my own for a few hours. Last Light is wicked, twisted, dark and a novel that I highly recommend everyone take a chance on. It’s outside of the realm of what I normally read and love, but there is something refreshing about relishing in the atypical.

Blog Tour: Grayson by Lisa Eugene

All she needed was a job…

The last thing twenty-four year old grad student Angie Roberts needs is to worry about her new boss’s father. After all, she’s never even seen him. He remains sequestered upstairs in a house that looks like it should be the main feature in an episode of Hoarders. She had no idea the house was such a dump when she took the job. But she’s concerned about the safety and health of the old man living under such horrid conditions.

What she got was a mystery…

Despite warnings not to venture upstairs, she wanders up to the second floor. What she sees is shocking. The man she finds is a gorgeous, sexy, middle-aged man-- and he's stepping out of the shower. But something is definitely not right. Why would this wealthy, handsome man live in a house in such disrepair while his nine-teen year old son resides in a lavish penthouse? Why does he hide away from society? Why does he come to her rescue and then run away?

What she discovered was heartbreaking…

Angie learns that forty-four year old Grayson Whitmore suffers from schizophrenia. Paranoid, he retreats into his own world.

What she ended up with was a treasure…

Angie is determined to get through to him. They form a friendship that blazes into an inconceivable love fired with erotic passion. Angie must now come to Grayson’s rescue because the wicked that has been perpetrated on him is unconscionable. First, though, she must gain the trust of a man whose mind does not allow for such a thing.

When I first read the synopsis for this book, I was immediately intrigued. This book sounded different than what I've been reading lately, and it is. It's fresh and original. I enjoyed every second of this book.

Angie lands a job cleaning out an old house. She pretty much has free reign to sort, trash items, and clean however she sees fit. The only restriction is that she cannot go upstairs. Her boss' father, Grayson, lives in the house and is a schizophrenic recluse.

After a few brief interactions, the two tentatively become friends. Angie draws him out with tasks that she needs "help" with. As it turns out, Grayson is kind, protective, funny, and not to mention hot. He is only in his 40s, not an old man like the assumed.

I absolutely loved these two characters. Angie is strong willed and loyal to Grayson. Her emotions jump off the page. Grayson is super swoon worthy regardless of his mental illness. The author does a phenomenal job with pulling you into some of his episodes and you experience his struggles right along with Angie.

This is definitely the book for you if you are looking for something different. It is a bit dark, and very emotional, but is worth every angsty moment.

Early Sunday morning, I crawled out of bed in search of Grayson. I discovered him upstairs in the room with the books. They were piled all around him as he scratched at something on the floor with an old shovel. The room was saturated with an early morning chill, so thick I could feel it seeping through my skin. I hugged my torso, scrubbing my palms up and down my arms. I approached him hesitantly and asked what he was doing. My heart was in my throat because I never knew what to expect with Grayson. He stopped and leaned against the handle, his cloudy gaze finding my face. He was fully dressed. He must have gotten dressed again after we’d made love earlier.

“Digging,” he acknowledged casually. “Digging a trap.”

I swallowed hard, emotion stacking like bricks in my chest. I shook my head, my mind grasping for purchase, trying to understand. “A trap for what, Grayson?”

“Danger. I have to be prepared. I have to protect us.”

I reached out a hand, trying to keep it steady. “You’re safe, Grayson.”

His gaze shifted to my proffered hand, but he didn’t move. He didn’t believe me. Fear and skepticism drew a roadmap of worry on his face. His jaw squared and he tightened his lips into a brittle line. I watched his body uncurl as he grabbed the shovel and silently started scraping at the floor again. That’s when I saw it. There was a large, jagged crater in the dusty wood that must have been covered up by the scattered books. It was directly over the small cracks I’d seen in the ceiling downstairs, the network of spider veins I’d noticed soon after starting here. I wondered how long he’d been working at this trap. I could already see exposed beams and fluffy insulation. If he kept this up, eventually he’d put a hole right through the wood floor.

“Go back to bed, Angie.”

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying with you, Grayson,” I said sternly, plopping myself down on the floor next to him.

He stopped again and stared at me, his blue eyes almost cobalt in the gray dawn. His hair was a loose mane framing his face, giving him an unruly look. “You’ll be tired. You haven’t gotten much sleep.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, hurting, thinking of the reason I’d been up most of the night. We’d held each other, made exquisite love, bathed in a temporary utopia where I could pretend he was okay.
But Grayson wasn’t okay, and as I spent more time with him, I realized the extent of his fractured thoughts. My Grayson was funny and brilliant. My Grayson was tender and passionate. My Grayson could melt my heart with the tiniest smile. But this man, too, was my Grayson, a man who was sometimes out of touch with reality, who lived in the distorted world concocted by his brain. It was a world of doubt, fear, and distrust.

Lisa Eugene began writing as a way to mentally escape from the hectic medical world where she has been a practicing nurse for over twenty years. After publishing her first novel, STRICTLY BUSINESS, she quickly learned that readers couldn't get enough of the world she created and now she lives out her wildest fantasies by writing steamy romantic suspense for her fan-favorite Washington Memorial Hospital series.

When she's not plotting her next dangerous, fast-paced, sexy adventure, you can find her juggling a full time job, playing soccer mom, or curled up reading a good romance.

I found myself looking over at Joe’s perfect profile, and felt that familiar ache in my chest. Frustrated at our disjointed state and suddenly overwhelmed with emotion, I stopped in my tracks. Joe turned to face me, a perplexed expression marring his flawlessness. I placed my hands on both of his uncharacteristically smooth cheeks and looked him in the eye. “I love you, Joe.” I felt my throat narrow painfully, and blinked away unexpected tears. “I love you, too.” His frown deepened and he brushed my sweeping bangs away from my eyes. “What’s wrong, Molly?” It was a good question and I wished I had a reasonable explanation. We’d come so far and been through so much, it seemed unfair that we couldn’t get it together long enough to enjoy any of it. I’d been wracking my brain for weeks to find the right thing to say, a verbal Band-Aid to slap over a hemorrhaging wound. It made me wish my love life could be as straightforward as my job. A good chef can throw random ingredients into a pot and create something delicious. On rare occasions, fate does the same thing with hearts. With the right combination of elements at just the right time, a couple can fall head over heels in love. That being said, blending two lives can get messier than any kitchen and also a hell of a lot harder to clean up. I wasn’t usually such a bawl baby, but when it came to Joe, all bets were off. I was freaked out about “us” just then, and what we were becom- ing. I pulled his face down to meet mine and kissed his lips delicately, so he wouldn’t be covered in my lipstick all night. “Let’s try to enjoy ourselves and talk about the ugly stuff afterwards. Okay?”

I absolutely feel in love with Molly and Joe in Great Wood. They are two of the most real characters I have read in the last few years. The demons they both carry from past relationships but somehow together they work. They complement each other. They give each other rations of shit and it’s awesome.
I was very excited that L.G. Pace III and Michelle Pace were going to give us more of Molly and Joe’s story.  I was interested to see how they would carry on after the traumatic event in Great Wood. In Great Wood, their obstacle was their pasts. I feel like in Mollywood, it was their love for the other. The fears of what that love would bring to them. The fear of lose, the fear of losing one’s self as well as their past still hovering over them.
Mollywood to be was about growth. We watch their love grow for the other but also personal growth. I love that this series is centered around food and restaurants since that is my background as well. I love that they are billionaires. They are down home normal folk. They are funny, hard working people who have what they do because they worked hard for it. The authors still gave us the great supporting cast. Molly’s brothers were still there and I love them. I am praying for a spin off! (hint hint authors)
I think this was a great sequel and I will be tuning for more of Molly and Joe even though I am scared you will ruin their happiness!!!
