In the land of Gods and Monsters, she was a toy. A plaything.
A pet.
His pet.
Taken, stolen, beaten, used.
Pet remembers nothing before his touch, and afterward, she
craves nothing more.
Sinful and merciless, Ares is her God now. He alone says
when to beg, when to come, and when to kneel, but he never said anything about
leaving.

“Beautiful,
isn’t it?” He presses his front against my back, eliminating the space between
us. My heart races as I feel his erection through his suit pants.
I shiver.
“Will you hurt me in here, Sir?”
“Of
course.”
“Will you
make me cry?”
“I usually
do.”
I steel my
jaw, because the way he talks about my pain, my torment, is just cruel. “Then
what are you waiting for?”
“An
audience,” he whispers, his tongue darting out to lick the space where my
shoulder meets my neck. I close my eyes, bring my arm up behind his head, and
slide my fingers into his hair as he devours my flesh. My body is electric, on
fire, and buzzing with need. His words terrify me, and yet I’ve never been more
turned on.
I was so excited to finally get my hands on this book. As soon as I read the blurb, I knew I had to read it. While I mostly enjoyed this story, I have some mixed feelings about it.
This story started out strong. It pulled me in from the very first page when Pet woke up captured and in an enclosure. She is pleading for help, but her new master, Ares, just watches her and offers no mercy. Pet doesn't remember who she is or where she came from. She only remembers waking up in the enclosure. Even lacking her memories, she is strong-willed and stubborn and knows that she wasn't always a part of the life she woke up in. She is determined to find a way out.
I feel like the storyline flowed well. However, I just didn't feel the connection between the characters. Pet grows to love Ares. She comes to depend on him, to crave him. I felt like he didn't do much of anything to gain her love. Ares on the other hand begins to see her as other than merchandise. He gets attached and possessive, but again, I didn't feel love from him. I felt like he was amused by her attitude, though there were plenty of times when he would punish her for her disobedience.
Though I didn't feel their love connection, I am interested to see where their story goes. As I said, the story itself had a good flow and kept me invested in the story. I will definitely be reading the next book, because I have to find out what happens next.
