Blog Tour: Wire by Anne Conley

Evan Rocco has been a hero to Paige Lawson for as long as she could remember.  So when she runs into him in a bar after a major professional coup, she’s feeling celebratory and reckless.  But it can’t go anywhere, because after all, he’s Evan Rocco.  When she finds her gaming company in trouble, there’s only one man she can turn to.

Evan can’t get the woman who disappeared after their one-night stand six months ago out of his head.  He’d honestly thought there was more between them besides just sex—a connection he’d never felt before.  When PSL, his favorite game software company, is the victim of sabotage, he jumps at the chance to help them solve the mystery behind The Crimson Lady, the fanmade character   who’s taking credit for murder.  Maybe it will get his mind off the woman of his dreams.
When he realizes who the CEO of PSL actually is, he has to get over his own issues or else he’ll put the one woman in danger he never wanted to hurt.

This is book two in the Pierce Securities series, a standalone story.  The first book, while not necessary to read, is Craze.

Book One in the Pierce Securities series, Craze, is available now at

Amazon

iTunes

and most other online retailers.

When Krista catches her boss doing the unthinkable, the only thing she can do is run.  Straight into the arms of the eyecandy she’s been trying not to flirt with on her lunch break.  But whose side is he on?

Ryan’s security firm is having a hard time getting off the ground, and this may be just the job to help the company out.  But pseudo bounty hunter isn’t really what Pierce Securities is trying to get a name for.  When he finds out their target is the classy lady from the park, all of Ryan’s senses go on high alert.  What do these men want with her?

Krista is forced into Ryan’s sanctuary in the woods, where she realizes just how wild he is, but she doesn’t want to tame him.  He may feel his methods of protection endangered her, but without Krista in his life, Ryan is crazed.

This is book #1 in the Pierce Securities, a Romantic Suspense series by Anne Conley, author of the Stories of Serendipity and The Four Winds.

Anne has written her entire life and has the boxes of angst-filled journals and poetry to prove it. She's been writing for public consumption for the last four years. Currently she is writing three romance series. In Stories of Serendipity, she explores real people living real lives in small town Texas in a contemporary romance setting. In The Four Winds, she chronicles God's four closest archangels, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael, falling in love and becoming human. In Pierce Securities, she gives us Ryan, Evan, Miriam, Zack, Quinten, and Simon. She lives in rural East Texas with her husband and children in her own private oasis, where she prides herself in her complete lack of social skills, choosing instead to live with the people inside her head.

Blog Tour: Shadows & Lies by Eden Butler

One lie can change your life.

A web of lies can destroy it.

Neil Ryan was a good Navy SEAL. He was an even better detective, but when an unmarked envelope lands on his desk, long-buried secrets are resurrected and Ryan questions everything he thought he knew about justice, including who killed his mother.

Alex Black is a distraction Ryan doesn’t need—she’s loud, obnoxious and a common thief, but her eyes are haunting, her lips irresistible and Ryan happens to love her filthy mouth.

Alex is also the only one able to help Ryan find the leads he's missing. She's the only one who can lead him to the one person who has the answers he seeks, but following her could cost Ryan everything.

Secrets get told, lives get wrecked and in every shadow, the truth is hiding.

Eden Butler is one of my favorite authors. Everytime I see her name attached to a new book, I'm all over it. There is something about her writing, her tone, her "voice," whatever you want to call it, that always pulls me in. This book is no different. Well, it is different than her other books, but it is still very, very good. I was so excited that the author decided to branch out and try something new. I think it paid off. Big time.

Alex is flawed. She isn't perfect. Didn't have a perfect childhood. In fact, she is a criminal. She hustles and steals for her living. She is tough, independent, and street smart. She does have redeeming qualities, though, that make her likable. Really, I enjoyed all her qualities when she wasn't hustling. As far as characters go, she is definitely in my top 5 so far this year.

Ryan is a the good guy. A former cop and Navy Seal he now runs a security film in New Orleans. He and Alex share some unpleasant history from back in his hometown of Cavanaugh. (I love this touch. If you've read the author's other books, you'll get it.) they discover a further link that had then teaming up and relying on each other.

I devoured this story. It was suspenseful, a little gritty, and full of action. If you are looking for a steamy, erotic story, this isn't the book for you. It does contain romance and some heat, but that isn't the focus of the story. Personally, I'm fine with less sex and more story, and that is definitely what the author gives. There isn't one dull moment in this story. There is not a cliffhanger, but the story is far from over. I cannot wait to find out what happens next!

“I’ve never seen you cruel before. Didn’t know you had it in you, Boy Scout.”

“You know, lady,” there was a hum in my voiceI didn’t recognize. Alex had put it there with just the low dip of her gaze, “you got all these ideas that you know me. You don’t.”

“Ditto.”

Her eyes moved with the shake of my head, following the slow nod, the moment becoming something tactile, obvious as the heating air between our bodies that dampened our skin. Two looks, two held breaths and something had shifted. Hell, who was I kidding? It had started, brewing, way back, the second I grabbed her arm, stopping her from taking that wallet. It simmered when she snuck onto my balcony asking for my help. Now it crackled—that attraction, the symmetry in the breath that mingled between her mouth and mine.

“Alex?” It was only her name falling from my mouth that moved her gaze off my lips, a small glance that was all the answer she’d give me. “I’m not a fucking Boy Scout.”

There are times when you can’t think. Those are the clustered moments when the energy, the zing of the moment you’re in breaks apart any awareness you have. There is no logic in the swell of sensation or the liquid heat that drives one body closer to another. It’s the feel of warmth, the hope of touch that pulls you in no matter what your brain tries to make you understand about right and wrong, friend or foe. I wasn’t supposed to touch Alex Black. I wasn’t supposed to see her as anything but a mission. I was supposed to find her stalkerand keep her safe.

But I had always done what was expected. Seems she had to, as well. The difference was that my expectations fell on the side of justice. Hers ran along the tracks of corruption. Both meant we survived however we could.

I didn’t think about the case or what had brought her to me in the first place, and what kept her coming back to me. I reached for her because Iknew that’s what we both wanted. I touched her because she let me and once I had her against my chest, felt the smooth brush of her fingers on my neck, sensation shattered judgment.

The last sound I heard before I kissed her was the strangle of laughter falling into a moan. Hers, not mine. Alex was a woman—beautiful, sensual, parts that went in and out just like they’re supposed to, but she did not kiss me like any other hesitant, docile woman I’d ever touched.

She touched me like she was still hungry, like the meal we had just shared had not filled her. Like nothing would.
