Love Rekindled by Michelle Lynn

Love Rekindled (Love Surfaced Series, Book 2)

Taylor Delaney is the love of my life.
She’s also the one I've hurt the most.
Two years ago, I made a disastrous mistake.
One I’m not sure I can make amends from.
But I have to try, because I’m nothing without her.

Brad Ashby's here, in my hometown, asking for a second chance.
All those unresolved feelings for him have resurfaced.
Not that they ever went away.
I know I should run him out of the town, but I can’t.
He needs to know that I wasn’t the only one who was deceived.

Even if we gave our relationship another try, how can we rebuild what’s been destroyed? If we weren’t strong enough then, what makes us strong enough now?

I'm a cheater. There. I said it. Two years ago, I fell into a hole, and as fast as my fingers clawed to escape, the dirt continued to pile on me. I'm not saying it's an excuse. I'm not even saying she should forgive me. Although, I hope she does. But I can't live without her anymore. I tried. I found a girl and proposed to her, while imagining the delicate finger I slid the ring on belonged to someone else. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't go through with marrying anyone but her. For sure, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm nothing without her. She brings out the good in me. That's why I'm here, in some small-ass town, to grovel my way back into her heart.

She's different now, and I'm not referring to the disappearance of her bleached blonde hair back to her natural brown. I loved her as a blonde, but the dark suits her better. I wouldn't care if she had rainbow-colored hair. I'm not sitting outside the hospital where she works, watching her walk to her car like some stalker, because she’s gorgeous. I’m here because of her heart and kindness. That’s what I’m fighting to get back. The package it comes in is just an added bonus.

Her ponytail swings back and forth as she laughs with what I hope is a co-worker, unless she's turned lesbian in the last two years. She waves good-bye to the girl and throws her purse into the passenger seat of her Jetta. The car has a little more rust than it did back in the day, but it's held up well. Still, it’s old and she deserves something newer.

She pulls out of her parking space, and my heart constricts as I watch her drive away from me again. I should duck down so she doesn’t see me, but my eyes won't veer from her. The beat-up Jetta passes and my stomach clenches. My hand itches to yank the car handle open. My feet beg to disobey and run to her. I don't have to, because she slams on the breaks and her eyes are locked on mine. Hope pours from mine while hers fume with anger.

After Love Surfaced, I was super excited to see that Michelle Lynn would be writing Brad and Taylor’s story. We watched some of their relationship unfold behind the scenes but Love Rekindled takes place about two years after Love Surfaced.

This book can be read as a standalone but I wouldn’t recommend it. The reader will be left feeling a little lost on what Brad actually did that made him spiral his life out of control which I think is a huge portion of the books plot line.

The writing in Love Rekindled wasn’t as strong as in Love Surfaced, however the story was good. I really liked watching Brad grow up and really focus on the future even though his past followed him around.

As for Taylor, I really liked her. She had to make difficult decisions (even though I don’t really love the one she made) at a young age. She truly loved Brad and it was great that they had a second chance a finding happiness.

The big “conflict” wasn’t big enough in my opinion. I think it could have really brought the angst to the story. There were a few other potential conflicts but thankfully they were resolved quickly.

I give this book a 3 star because although I thought this book lacked in some areas, I really like the characters and wanted to see them get their HEA!

Love Rekindled is Book 2 in the Love Surfaced series. This book can definitely be read as a standalone. Like the first book, I really enjoyed this story. In book one, Love Surfaced, Brad is about to get married. However, he sees the error of his ways and realizes that he can't go through with the sham that would be his marriage. At the end of the book, he decides that he is going to go after the girl who has always had his heart, Taylor.

Brad and Taylor were together in college. She was seemingly the one to break him of his womanizing ways. That is until he learned that he would not be going to the Olympics and his life spiraled out of control. Partying and drugs become his life, but it isn't until Taylor catches him with another girl that she finally ends the relationship. Fast forward to the present, Brad is determined to win Taylor back. Taylor has done well for herself. She has a life of her own, a great career, a man who she leans on, and a secret of her own. When Brad learns her secret, he will stop at nothing to get her back and to prove that he is a changed man.

I love a good second chance story and Michelle Lynn delivered. I absolutely loved Brad. He is the right balance of cocky and sweet with a loyal heart of gold. He not only owned up to his mistakes, but learned from them and made himself better. Taylor was just as awesome. Strong, determined, and caring and with a hint of vulnerability, she was his perfect compliment. Love Rekindled is an excellent book of love and forgiveness. It is a must read!

The equations are simple.

Piper Ashby + Brad Ashby = Twin Siblings
Brad Ashby + Tanner McCain = Best Friends
Piper Ashby + Tanner McCain = Off limits

Tanner and I abided by the rules. We stayed on our
designated sides of the relationship circle.

Ignoring swarming butterflies.
Brushing off skipped heartbeats.
Settling on lingering stares.

USA Today Bestselling author, Michelle Lynn moved around the Midwest most of her life, transferring
from school to school before settling down in the outskirts of Chicago ten
years ago, where she now resides with her husband and two kids.  She developed a love of reading at a young
age, which helped lay the foundation for her passion to write.   With the encouragement of her family, she
finally sat down and wrote one of the many stories that have been floating
around in her head. When she isn’t reading or writing, she can be found playing
with her kids, talking to her mom on the phone, or hanging out with her family
and friends.  But after chasing around
twin preschoolers all day, she always cherishes her relaxation time after
putting the kids to bed.
