“Please, Chloe. I love you. I want to spend every second of my life with you from now until the day I die. I can’t live without you,” I pleaded.
This had gone so much better in my head. While I knew she would be angry, I had hoped that I wouldn’t have to resort to groveling to get her to take me back. If I had to though, I would. I would rather die than spend one more day without her.
“I don’t want to get hurt again, Drake,” she whispered. “I can’t take it.”
I grabbed her and pulled her into my arms. She struggled at first, but I held on tight, refusing to let her go.
“I will never hurt you again, Chloe. Never. Let me prove it to you.”
I pressed my lips to hers and kissed her like I was dying, like it was the last kiss we would ever share because it might just be our last. When I let her go, she might slap me and then never speak to me again. If she did, I wanted to remember the feel of her lips against mine for the rest of my life.
Despite what she’d said, her body responded to me instantly. She wrapped her arms around me and kissed me back, showing me just how much she still wanted me. I groaned as her lips parted, and I slipped my tongue inside her mouth, flicking my tongue ring against her tongue in a way that I knew drove her crazy.
Tainted is book three in the Torn series. You will need to read book one, Torn, and book two, Twisted, before you start Tainted.
For me I didn’t really think I needed another book for Drake and Chloe. Twisted ended nicely and gave me a sweet Epilogue and I was fine going straight to Logan’s book. That was until I read Tainted… I’m happy Kelly decided to give us more Drake, Chloe and the gang, although this one left me wanting more.
**Warning, if you have not read the first two books I would not go any further in my review, it will contain spoilers**
Tainted is broken down in three parts as you can see from the Synopsis. If it has been awhile since you read Torn and Twisted I HIGHLY recommend you do a re-read or a quick skim through of both books. I chose the skimming and I am so glad I did.
Part one is written in Drake’s POV and picks up right when Chloe finds out Drake is using cocaine again. Part one of this book was hard for me. Having an addict in my family, I could relate and feel everything as I went along. Kelly did a good job of portraying the addict’s side and the friends/family side. If you aren’t familiar with addiction while you read this you are probably going to say something about the band knowing he’s using but not doing anything about it…let me tell you there is NOTHING you can do about it until the addict is ready for help…NOTHING…the more you push the more they will use. I’ve lived this first hand for more years than I care to admit. Not everyone will want help and it is heart breaking to watch. In Drake’s case we know at the end of Twisted that he does decide he needs help and checks himself into rehab.
Part two is written in Chloe’s POV and is about Drake and Chloe working through their issues and becoming “them” again. I loved seeing Chloe want to take things slow at first. After you have been burned your whole life by addiction, I understand her reasoning’s. Part two went a bit quicker than part one but I loved seeing them grow together and move forward. When you get to Cheat Lake you will have the biggest cheesiest smile on your face.
Part three…Ahhh I want MORE from part three!! Seriously why is it so short?! What we did get though was pretty awesome and I am so happy Drake made it in time (you will see what I’m talking about). I love Drake and Chloe together and I know you will too. One more thing I loved…Chloe kept her relationship with Logan. Torn nearly killed me with the whole love triangle but Logan is amazing and deserves his HEA…which we will be getting next, YAY!
