Captive by Brenda Rothert
Book 2 in Fire on Ice series

Two years ago, Jason and Kate Ryker were brought together by grief and bound to one another by love. Now married, they’re confronting their fears together. But heartbreak finds them again, and the ties that bind Kate and Ryke are tested as she struggles against fear and sadness. As a grief counselor, Kate understands all too well the pain of her clients. And while her husband’s career as an NHL forward is at an all-time high, he’s coping with the frustration of feeling powerless as his wife's hopes slip away. Kate’s unexpected journey sheds light on the fear that imprisons her, and reveals that she is the only one who can set herself free
I can’t stop smiling. This book made me happy. After reading Bound I was happy with the way things wrapped up. I’m so glad I was wrong. This story was perfect. I loved that we were able to get another peek into Kate and Ryker’s lives.
We pick up in Captive about a year or so after Bound. Kate
and Ryker are now married and are carrying on in their day to day lives. Things
are going great for them until tragedy strikes them again. Kate tries to go on
with normal life, but finds it hard. Things consume her and she has a hard time
letting go. Ryker does what he can to move on but hates seeing Kate in pain and
will do anything and everything in his power to make things better for her.
I didn’t think it was possible to fall more in love with
Ryker, but I did. He is everything we look for in a book boyfriend. He is very swoon worthy and H.O.T.
Brenda has done it again. She has hit so close to home for
me. I am Kate, I have experience what Kate has been through in both Bound and
Captive. I’ve been through all the emotional highs and lows in both of these
books. Captive was a great follow up and
conclusion for Kate and Ryker. I can’t wait for the next installment in this
series. It will be Luke’s story, a teammate of Ryker. Hopefully Kate and Ryker will make some cameos
in this book so we can see how they are doing.
Brenda Rothert started her writing career as a print journalist. She now writes Romances, some Contemporary and others with a twist of dystopian society and adventure. Rothert lives in Central Illinois with her husband and three boys.
